Any Radiohead or Joy Division will do. Hail to the Thief is perfect for an angry type of sadness.
Pink Moon and Hospice are both thoroughly depressing.
Personally, when I'm sad and alone I go for one of these more often than anything else:
Daydream Nation - Sonic Youth
13 - Blur
So Jealous - Tegan and Sara
Pinkerton - Weezer _________________ kill yr idols

some of these are more melancholy to me than traditionally so, but here
Dirty Three - Ocean Songs
Sun Kil Moon - Ghosts of the Great Highway
Sparklehorse - It's A Wonderful Life
Joy Division - Closer
Low - I Could Live In Hope
Red House Painters - Down Colorful Hill
The Microphones - The Glow Pt. 2
Built to Spill - Perfect From Now On
Joanna Newsom - Ys
Van Morrison - Astral Weeks
Broken Social Scene - You Forgot It In People

just checked your chart, we got about 11 albums in common but about 30 bands in common
don't know why I thought I'd post that, guess I'd expect you like those albums

i assume that if our charts were expanded to 300 or so, we'd have a very high percentage in common. there's just a lot of music out there. 30 bands ain't half bad _________________ http://jonnyleather.com

The album that's been getting to me recently is Boy In Da Corner, it's heartbreaking.

Hospice - The Antlers
Either/Or - Elliott Smith
Whatever and Ever Amen - Ben Folds Five
Closer - Joy Division
Spirit of Eden - Talk Talk
Bee Thousand - Guided by Voices
[The Smiths Discography]
Parachutes - Coldplay
Ocean Songs - Dirty Three
Disintegration - The Cure
Plastic Ono Band - John Lennon (Essentially the theme is isolation... very sad/angry)
Grace - Jeff Buckley
[I also listen to random jazz songs on shuffle sometimes.]
Perfect From Now On - Built to Spill
The Modern Lovers - The Modern Lovers
Armchair Apocrypha - Andrew Bird
Loveless - My Bloody Valentine
The Funeral - Arcade Fire
Ocean Rain - Echo & The Bunnymen
The bottom ones I guess don't belong on this list so much as the others, but they're good if I'm in a bad mood.
