Here's three of the albums on my top 100 that you've likely never heard but would totally blow you away while sounding like nothing you've heard before...
All of them sound really good. Thanks for sharing. ๐
This is what I wrote about it in my French chart: "When Gainsbourg died, someone had to take on the clothes of the French godfather. The best candidate was Bashung. An exemplary career, based on an adventurous temper : rock, variรฉtรฉ, new wave, experimental rock, pop,... he could do it all. This, his one before last studio album (bashung died in 2009), is one of his most demanding ones, and his most beautiful. Also check out Novice, Play blessures (a collaboration with Gainsbourg), Fantaisie Militaire, and his testament, the appeased Bleu pรฉtrรดle."
Yes, it's a covers record, probably the best of its genre. Dalton's incredible voice (somewhat reminiscent of Holiday) revisits her contemporary singer-songwriters, most notably Fred Neil. Her version of "Little Bit of Rain" surpasses Neil's.
Charlie Haden and his band give their reading of the Spanish Civil War. Think Sketches of Spain + free jazz. Carla Bley is behind most of this, and the shadow of Ornette blesses everybody. Beautiful.
Now is an apt time (her new record, Wed 21, is out in a few days) to reaffirm that Un Dia is one of the very best records to have come out in recent years. Molina's mix of local folklore, singer/songwriter influences, and subtle electronics, is a perfect jewel case for her to illustrate what the joy of singing is. Fans of Bjรถrk will love this, while Bjรถrk haters have nothing to fear. Best of both worlds. Title track is a gem.

Former Bjรถrk (her again! Talk about 'influential') keyboardist enrolls her sister (former Archive singer Roya Arab) and Luca Santucci, and makes them sing strangely difformed electronic lullabies, with ghosts of traces of soul and noise rock in there. Very original.

Cecil Taylor, wondrous pianist and free jazz pioneer. While not as earth-shattering as Ornette's works (but this is slightly earlier), it's a beautiful record. I'm not very good at talking about jazz, but believe me, you'll never forget "Excursions On A Wobbly Rail" or "Of What".

It's in 4 charts, all mine! What a disgrace. Malian kora prodigy issues his best traditional Malian folk record (he records in other styles, listen to his Symmetric Orchestra).

This is what I wrote about the record for my French chart. "Dominique A is the most important solo artist to have emerged in France since the early 90s. His debut, La Fossette (1992) is a must-have reference of minimal synth spleen in a French provincial town. This, his fourth LP, is his harshest, most difficult one to listen to, it's also his most beautiful."
Same source: "From their first two LPs, no-one could have guessed gentle situationnist Diabologum could ever release a beast of an album like this. Mean, lucid, very agressive, totally haunting collage of newspaper front pages, depressing lyrics, film extracts, and angry guitars. The best French rock album EVER. The band will explode after this coup de maรฎtre, dividing itself in two entities : Programme and Expรฉrience."
Alright, albums form my overall in 15 or less charts

Beaches & Canyons by Black Dice
NY Experimental Noise band, they make some really interesting sounds with Electronics and Noise, althoughI will admit, they're not for everyone.
Crooks And Lovers by Mount Kimbie
A fairly recent discovery, but an absolute landmark in Post-Dubstep, that combines many other genres in order to create a crazy masterpiece.

Singles 2007 2010 by Ty Segall
A compilation of Ty's non album singles, it creates a fantastic timeline of the progression of the greatest artist to emerge out of the San Francisco Garage Rock Revival scene.
This thread has been excellent so far. I've just listened to The Impressions' debut and it was pretty great. Will revisit it soon. Keep it going people, never-ending recs are the best.
Endless Fantasy by Anamanaguchi ๐ฅฐ . My all time favorite album by far. I thought I was just having one of those "this is a cool album so I'll say it's my favorite for a week or two and forget" moments but I STILL listen to this frequently. Very rarely do I find an album that has no weak tracks. Even the friggin' INTERLUDES sound good! Every track is upbeat and never misses a beat, with plenty of happy awesomeness to go around. If you AT ALL like chiptune, you should just buy this right now. If you don't know chiptune, buy this and check out my favorite genre of music. And if you don't like chiptune.... well, no one dislikes chiptune so no point in saying anything! XD
Anyways, this is a highly underrated album that anyone, and I mean ANYONE, can enjoy.
Cheers!
You got a point. But, I believe, they are really 2 different things: 1) to listen - a personal experience, and 2) to promote - to "sell" (in a way) your personal experience to other people.
Anyway, works best if your "promotion" is focused -like 1 album at a time, and if it brings out an emotional piece of yourself.
That's fair enough, I'll try throw together something on my albums tomorrow so. ๐ _________________
