Some great ones mentioned already, but I guess I'll carry the torch for metal.

Randy Rhoads played on Ozzy Osbourne's first two solo albums before dying tragically in a plane crash at the tender age of 25.

Cliff Burton, bassist for Metallica on their first three albums died in a bus accident at the age of 24. Metallica dramatically changed their sound after his passing and would go on to unprecedented commercial success.

Has Jim Morrison been mentioned yet? The Doors put out an incredible amount of great material in such a short time so it's possible that their best work was done with, but who knows. He was only 27.

Jason Becker had just joined David Lee Roth's band and was quickly becoming one of the most respected shred guitarists, but was then diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's Disease at the age of 20, and while he is still alive at the age of 44, he is completely paralyzed except for the use of his eyes.

Nice call with Brian Wilson. His case, while not death, seriously affected his ability to write more masterpieces. Same goes for Syd Barrett

Brian Jones of course. The Stones were his band ๐Ÿ˜ข

Sandman is the guy from Morphine right?

Nowell's Sublime, Sandman's Morphine, Alexander's New Radicals, Sutcliffe's pre-Beatles. Should've included that before, sorry.
