I loved the Cold Mountain soundtrack which definitely made the film a more engrossing experience, the same with Last of the Mohicans. These had music attempting to create an oldy worldy sound to go with the scenes rather than having songs that I liked previously. Whereas Watchmen used music of that period to set the tone, Dylan's The Times They Are a-Changin' made for an excellent intro montage. I can't imagine a Vietnam film without a healthy dose of late 60's rock.

On the other hand many movies are ruined by awful nu metal and rap soundtracks. I think it's all to do with how well the music chosen fits and how well its utilised.
