I finally managed to bump my 2013 chart up to 50 albums. I'm slightly disappointed that I have neglected 2013 till now, it has been a fantastic year, and I've still only listened to a small fraction of it. With the upcoming holidays, I won't be able to check out new music that much, but at least I'm glad I reached my goal.
It's really hard to say with Hospice it has so many cross-overs and there's no domination of genres. It's like there's electronic, folk, and indie rock involved as well as shoegaze/dream pop and post-rock. It depends what bits of Hospice you like the most really, it's rather subject to your own emotions.
I'd say it's shoegaze/dream pop as my favourite song on there is Sylvia and that is pretty much shoegaze. It goes from Prologue (shoegaze/post-rock) to Kettering (post-rock) to Sylvia (shoegaze) to Atrophy (post-rock) to Bear (indie/shoegaze), to Thirteen (shoegaze) to Two (folk) to Shiva (electronic/indie) to Wake (post-rock) to Epilogue (indie/folk), so it really is just an annoyance.
I'm gonna put it in shoegaze though purely because I find the post-rock bits less satisfying.
I never actually thought of Hospice as shoegaze at any moment during the album. The vocals are never distant (they're quiet but not distant) and fuzzy guitars โ shoegaze. It isn't even dream pop to me. I think of it as just really weird and wonderful indie rock. I think post-rock fits more since it does use rock instruments to create texture.
Genres are subjective though. ๐
