I walked in to my local record store yesterday and "To The End" was playing. All I had yet heard was that beautiful string part and I thought "hm... I think this sounds like Jens Lekman" then the vocals came in and I recognized the song and band and album. And I was blown away with how that song sounded.
This morning I listened to it and I forgot how great it is! Really excellent album. Definitely one of the best, most varied pop/rock albums I've heard. _________________ -Ryan
This. I'm just really impressed with it. He's really a solid songwriter. And what I really like about this album is how much vitality is there. Maybe that partially comes from how young and fresh he is or maybe it's just good production.
Everything about this album has a beautiful earnestness. The acoustic numbers are beautiful and entrancing especially "Pine Trees. The rockers here are sooo BADASS! That opening salvo of "There's A Beast and We All Feed It", "Slumville Sunrise" and "What Doesn't Kill You" is perfect and invigorating! And there is something mysteriously beautiful about "Kitchen Table" which is just stunning. Perhaps the standout is "Simple Pleasures", hard to say because this whole album is just refreshing to me.
This dude is legit and he has mad talent. I love all the different aspects of his music. I look forward to seeing where he goes from here with his music. His debut and this album are a mighty good way to start. _________________ -Ryan
I really have a band of the day. I'm going through the first Scorps work to the last. Not that far ahead, since I only started yesterday. I'm on Virgin Killer and I hope to get through all of the 70's studio albums by the end of the day.

lol I live 3 miles away from him and have played a gig at his hometown university campus. That boy is insane.
Just bought it on vinyl. And I have to say playing it on a hi-fi record player makes it twice as good. The crescendos in this are insane, from the beautiful uplifting start of Storm (particularly Lift Yr Skinny Fists...) which then slows down and speeds up again, like a schizophrenic rollercoaster. I watch it spin as the strings are screaming at me and the drum beats come in and think "wow, this is truly beautiful."
I'm on "Sleep" at the moment and the screeching VU-esque feedback and the violins are just beautifully layered, I mean this thing is good.
I mean it's really good.

That's amazing! Yeah, I'd say your chart and mancsoulsister's love of him is what got me most interested. I really dig it!
I've recently taken an interest into Nottingham musicians (about 2 years ago), and when Jake Bugg came onto the radar with 'Lightning Bolt', I knew he'd become something special. I'm really surprised you prefer Shangri La to Jake Bugg though. I mean, it's a really good album still but I found Jake Bugg to just be something magical.
Love this. Really better than I was expecting, and I was expecting it to be pretty good. So much fun. And it feels so innocent and childlike. This is like the modern day equivalent of Piper At The Gates of Dawn.
