Isn't this entire tidbit rather presumptuous of people who happen to enjoy Coldplay in any avenue? While I will not say they are my favorite thing ever, but I find their arrangements in more than a few albums to be more than satisfactory. What happened to not picking apart simple, but well-done pop music?

I wouldn't try and take an allegory of a sandwich too seriously. I really enjoy a good handful of Coldplay's work, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with well-done pop music, but when, at least stylistically, it's so tame, you realize almost anything they have done has been done in a more exciting way by someone else.
But what else was this thread supposed to be? A circlejerk for Coldplay's music? I thought I gave some decent-at-best ideas about their music as was asked. Picking things apart is what music fans do best, and I don't think we should be pushing aside anyone that criticizes music we like.

Don't worry! I completely agree with you, I just have heard the Coldplay argument so many times before I wanted to use that horse emoticon inject some humour into the conversation.

I predict this will be another flop, unfortunately. I think that the only way that it could go well is if they'd return to more raw production and instrumentation. Electronic drumkits and tangled pop synths aren't too great.
Magic is too poppy, but it is actually a really nice song. I just wish they had taken out the electric drum kit.
Midnight is okay, I was really concerned once I heard it at first, because it's so unlike what I like from Coldplay, but it's not bad.
Another's Arm is another gray area, where I HATE the line "Late night watchin' TV, used to feel your arms around me,". The chorus is decent.
Always In My Head is okay, I just feel like it lacks flare.
As for comparison with Mylo Xyloto, I have to say that album had some stronger songs, but they were either too poppy or over-produced. Honestly, Hurts Like Heaven, Charlie Brown, Us Against the World, Major Minus, U.F.O., and Up With The Birds are amazing songs that sound so much better when compared to what I've heard so far. I'm incredibly sad that no demotapes/b-sides have been resulted over the last 2 years. (Excluding Moving to Mars, which would've been phenomenal on the album in place of PoC.)
Through all of this, I'd have to say that Buckland's ambient guitar is a redeeming factor.
I miss the old albums where things were more down to earth.

I'll have you know I've tried hundreds of thousands of sandwiches and Coldplay is still my favorite. But of course, the new taste is becoming a bit stale. Not slandering you or your opinion, but just defending the integrity of my musical tastes. I can understand/partially agree with what you've said.

Viva la Vida the song was the albums single, but it really was nothing like the rest of the album. I dont think these singles are a definite representation of what their new album will be like. I am definitely excited for it, and I hope it doesn't flop like Mylo Xyloto.
