So touching about 10 percent of the time. So gut wrenchingly, mind bogglingly, horribly, boring the other 90%. A beautiful piece stretched to absurd lengths. Stick to side 2 of Sinking of the titanic/Jesus' Blood Never Failed me yet. Cuz 20 minutes of this is pretty powerful whereas 70 minutes is pretty grating. _________________ -Ryan
It's been damn near impossible to find some of Jim Shepard's material online but a few days ago some dude put up a whole load of links to his albums on his blog. It's like Christmas!
I've got a friend who really likes Wye Oak, so I decided to give this album a shot. It's nice enough, a couple really solid tracks so far, but nothing amazing. Pleasant indie synth pop sort of stuff. Can't shake the feeling that they sound like the kind of band who would be a perpetual opening act though, if that makes any sense. Apparently it's a pretty big change from their old sound though, so I may go back and try out a couple of those albums.

I haven't heard this one yet! I'll check it out for sure. And yeah, "Civilian" is pretty awesome to me. But yeah, pretty straightforward 2 person guitar and drums-based loud/quiet indie rock stuff with some electronic kinda amospherics. And the singer's great on this album. Recommended for sure. Was even on my chart for a little while. _________________ -Ryan
