I had found this pretty underwhelming at first, but I'm really enjoying it atm. Just a great, laid-back performance. I still much prefer albums by Van Zandt, Clark and Haggard, but this is nonetheless a fantastic release. My only complaint is that some songs lack personality. Like, they're alright, just pretty unremarkable. Whatever, when it works, it works like few albums do.
First listen. Now this is pretty great. It's not the case with many albums, but here I like the fact that strong guitar songs alternate with quieter, countrier folk songs. You rock hard, then you make a pause, then you rock hard again, etc. Encouraging album actually. Thumbs up.
That said, not sure it holds a candle to Yankee Hotel, although I'm even less sure it's OK to compare them. Whatever, I should stop comparing shit now.
EDIT : the instruments and voice sometimes remind me a lot of NMH (or the opposite, chronologically), and that's a good thing. Yeah, it's very good.
