Speaking of MBV, is there a better live experience? I've seen them twice & both times were transcendent. Please only answer if you've actually seen MBV live.
I don't go to concerts often, but seeing and listening to MBV live was really fantastic. I think you described the experience perfectly with the word transcendent. My favourite moments were the middle part of You Made Me Realise. I also liked the songs from their new album.

I recently had a discussion with a friend of mine about the best shows I've seen, and I decided that MBV was number 3, beaten out by Yo La Tengo and The Flaming Lips+Tame Impala. So I'd say those were better than MBV.

I think FL+TI was the best show I ever saw, and Tame Impala had a lot more to do with that than I expected. I saw YLT too, but they were an opening act at an outdoor venue and didn't get much time. I imagine Yo La Tengo headlining in a small venue would be mind-blowing.

Yeah, be sure to catch them next time they're in your area. I got to see then at The Fillmore(fucking legendary venue) where they played for over 3 hours, no opener. They played a set of their quiter stuff, where they all say right at the edge of the stage, and had a bunch of painted wooden trees, akin to an elementary school play obscuring the rest of the stage. They then removed the trees, revealing their wall of amps and guitars, and proceeded to rock the fuck out. They then came back and took requests for an encore of stuff from their repertoire of covers. So yeah, it was pretty fantastic.

That show was fucking great, I don't know if I would put it above MBV though. For me my top three shows would probably be the Flaming Lips+Tame Impala one (even better since it was on Halloween), MBV, and Neutral Milk Hotel, as sadly generic as that is. They just put on fucking fantastic live shows. Right outside that would probably be The Dismemberment Plan and YLT, along with the San Fran Kozelek show for the sake of Kozelek being amazing.
