Well, in light of the announcement that the User Pick of the Day is going on hiatus, I'll offer one up. I don't know if i can do this on a daily basis, but I've been feeling insanely productive lately, writing brief metaphorical descriptions of albums. We'll start with this one.

Blood by This Mortal Coil
Year: 1991

It's karaoke night at the morgue. She keeps singing songs you vaguely remember but each seems seems straight from her soul.

The final album from the 4AD supergroup is a lot to take in in one sitting, running 21 songs deep. Highlights include covers of Chris Bell's "You & Your Sister" (sung by Kim Deal and Tanya Donelly) and Gene Clark's "With Tomorrow" among many others.

A very good record. My personal favs are Mary Margaret O'Hara's "Help Me Lift You Up", and Barrett's "Late Night", both sung by Caroline Crawley of Shelleyan Orphan, a sadly overlooked popfolk band that was very delicate.

Otherwise it's like you said, or: Lady Usher gets up from her tomb and sings in the vault.

The only thing thing this album lacks is "Song to the Siren".

I really need to check them out. I think This Mortal Coil has been a gateway to so many favorite artists. Their Buckley and Gene Clark covers are what really propelled me into loving both artists.

I just want to know... Did you get this album from someone's chart, or just picked for yourself?

I'm self-indulgent and lazy.
