The TV show is incredibly misanthropic and degrading.

More to the point, it's almost offensively unfunny.

Halfway through.

First few songs got me wondering how much better you could get in this type of heavy gothic americana. It's probably impossible. And just as I was thinking about this sounded like the records Nick Cave couldn't do anymore, I am currently losing some of the interest. My theory is that it's hard to keep this sort of intensity without somehow tiring yoiur listener a bit. Anyway, more about this when I'm done. Very impressive anyway and surely making my '14 chart, thanks for the rec.

3. Have a Nice Life - The Unnatural World
4. Phil Beaudreau - Ether

7. Angel Olsen - Burn Your Fire For No Witness
8. An Ant And An Atom - You Are No One

Everything after 6 is meh.

Still haven't heard these ones in full yet. Will do so hopefully this week.

Kinda makes sense about the intensity thing. As much as I like them, some Wovenhand albums can have tracks that, intentionally or not, seem to just fill in the mood without being as distinctive songwriting wise.

I'd say that (compared to the last couple Wovenhand albums) the album gains in more polished production and richer/more dramatic atmospheres, but loses a bit in having a cohesive tone. The songwriting kinda jumps around in mood, especially in the second half (even when the individual tracks are really really strong)
