Johnston, by a whisker. The sheer sincerity and vulnerability of his music and his words just connect with me on a more raw, personal level. Also, whilst I adore Eno, there are large parts of his solo career that really don't do anything for me at all, with many of my favourites being collaborative efforts (After the Heat with Cluster, for example). Occasionally Johnston's work can feel a little formulaic or uninspired, but it never grates on me in the way Eno's early, poppier records have a tendency to. There's really nothing to pick between their very best records in terms of quality, but I'm gonna go with Johnston for those reasons mentioned above. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Talk about two guys that bring completely different things to the table. I voted Johnston because he's being walloped, but I could go either way, depending on my mood.
