Oh, how is it? I added this to my with list not so long ago, and I just can't remember where I had found it. I kind of forgot about it after that. Should I check it out ASAP?
Interesting. I'm getting diminishing returns from both this & its opponent The Gerbils, whereas Snowball & Visitor get better with each & every spin.
I totally know what you mean. The first time I heard that album it was like a revelation! It also got me really into other artists of a similar ilk such as 808 State, and The Orb, etc. as well as interested in Ambient House and Acid House and Ambient Trance and Ambient music for the first time.
But the more I return to it the more the initial feeling of amazement and discovery wears off. That is bound to happen for me anyway as their aren't really too many songs here or things that are fully relatable. It's beautiful at times, that much is undeniable. I love the guitar parts and the throat singers an the random vocal snippets an the beautiful Elvis sample with the steel guitar, oh my!
My main qualm with it is the CONSTANT triple echo effect they put on almost every sample. It gets old for me.
Yeah, but all things considered I can see where you're coming from on the "returns" diminishing. But I will say that every time I come back to this album after a few months, that feeling of discovery and excitement comes back. Not as intensely as those first listens, but it still is there.
It's a beautiful work.
Also recommend "The Orb's Adventures... " And 808 States "90" if you like that album. _________________ -Ryan

I was really hoping that may be the case!!! I'll keep it n my listening bin & come back to it in a few months. Regardless, that first listen was indeed a revelation & validated all the hype I've heard about the album over the years. What an incredible backstory too! I love stories likes that. Reminds me of my own road trips through the South.
You forgot to mention the Van Halen sample! I think another of your faves was into Van Halen as well. 😉
Thanks for the recs! I'll totally check out "90" soon. Feel free to pass on other Ambient House and Acid House and Ambient Trance recs because I'm pretty much clueless once you get past The Orb, Orbital & 808 State.
In the meantime, I think I'll give this here gem of gems a spin...
