Various Artists - Keysound Recordings Presents... Certified Connections (2014)
Following on from last year's compact, lurking, and downright excellent This Is How We Roll, grime/dubstep/UK funky OGs Dusk & Blackdown are back to present their label's second compilation, featuring Logos, Murlo, Wen, and E.M.M.A., among others. If there's one label you can always count on for high quality wares, it's Keysound. For those who are unfamiliar with the recent progressive instrumental grime movement, either this or the aforementioned This Is How We Roll would make excellent introductions (actually, I think this one might be even better, or at least more welcoming - the first compilation was quite an insular affair that probably relied on some familiarity with UK bass music to really make complete sense, though I'd love to be proven wrong if anybody did try it and fall in love despite limited prior knowledge of the genre). The stuff that comes out on Keysound is largely much darker and more minimal than the sort of stuff you'd find on the Boxed compilations, but they're worth searching out too. Excellent stuff all round. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.
