is there progressive ethereal/shoegaze/dream out there? i'm imagining cocteau twins covering genesis's lamb lies down on broadway or slowdive running through selling england by the pound. nothing so heavy as alcest having a go with king crimson and portishead, but something on the lighter, airier side.
i can hear it in my head, but i don't know that it exists (yet)??

I'm a huge fan of the dB's first album and just now checking this out. Incredibly well crafted power pop that threw fans of their first two albums off because it strips off any artiness. Quite great so far and in Mecca's overall. It doesn't compare to their debut (which is in my overall) but not much does. If yo haven't heard their debut...

Verging on ambient at times, this is really a dubby deconstruction of deep house, and one of the most emotive and inventive electronic albums I've ever heard. Definitely worth a gander.

I don't remember why I decided to check this out. I've never been a massive fan of Moufang's stuff, and I certainly had no idea who Benjamin Brunn was at the time. The artwork looks like a bad Four Tet album cover, re-imagined through the eyes of the author of Elmer the Patchwork Elephant. The album title reminds me of that David Sylvian album. I hate bees (not as much as I hate wasps, but they still make me uneasy). I don't care what genre this is. Minimal tech? Maybe. Minimal house? Warmer. Deep house? Perhaps. Dub techno? Some acid synth lines come pounding through like Polygon Window minus the sense of early '90s paranoia, feeling sunnier, less weighty, but still as likely to get you on your feet. And then, of course, they dissipate as quickly as they arrived, sinking back into more oceanic synth washes and April shower drums. Keyboard stabs bounce from wall to wall, energetic but never aggressive, like an old friend whose presence at the party puts everybody else at ease. A minimal, dubby deconstruction of deep house? Yes please.

How's about some wonky Welsh madness for my favourite J-Pop advocate? Stylistically Tatay's all over the fuckin' place, but for some bizarre reason I have a sneaking suspicion something may just click. Then again I'm tired, have man flu and am probably very wrong. But hey, a new listening experience for you even if you may have heard some of their later stuff already. Evidence below - see how you get on, if only to tell me I'm barking up the wrong tree completely.
