I voted bong - he's a fun, funny, interesting personality, with lots of great recs and an inimitable style. His views on, well, a lot of things are pretty despicable, and the recent homophobic rants were genuinely depressing, especially coming from someone I have a lot of time for, but since his arrival he's been a good presence to have around the place. Nothing against SingingPeasant, who seems really lovely, but bong is one of my favourite users (on the topic of music, anyway).

Well... after a bit of hesitation I do think it's important to say that one shouldn't judge a user based on a single thread in the forums, and I had no problem with Bong up until that one topic (y'all know which one), which not to sugarcoat it at all it just went beyond being deplorable and ending up being rather dis-heartening all the way through (and I do apologize for the occasionally impulsive name-calling but we're all just human after all), no matter how serious or tounge-in-cheek he was being the whole time. But... otherwise he's been great, there was always a bit of a stir-the-pot wiseass quality with the posts but that often made him one of the more entertaining and unpredictable users on BEA. Admittedly though what was shared in that thread is really hard to just look past and forget about... but again he has the right to share those views and (at least under the assumption he was being completely serious) there is something to be said about not playing coy and proudly putting yourself out there like that... no matter what less-appealing truth it may bare. Hopefully there's just a little more tact and a shred of human empathy, rather than just Kick-the-dog-style flame-bait, in future discussions.


Singingpeasent96 may be the polar opposite... a pleasent and modest user who've rarely come across but don't have a bad word to say at all. Good guy/gal all-around.

Had to think about this a while.

I normally try to keep politics separate from my judgement of a person. I have friends and family irl who think homosexuality is wrong or who oppose gay marriage, and I feel like I can respectfully disagree with them and leave it at that. However, what bong was doing in that thread was far more destructive. Using religion and junk science to spread hatespeech is like passing around a disease, one that severely damages people's lives. I just can't convince myself that anything good about his taste in music or sense of humor matters in comparison to that.
