I'm obsessing obsessing obsessing over this. Maybe one of the 5 or so greatest live albums I've ever heard. It's so fucking perfect, emotional, cool, impassioned, detailed, the band is so on and so in each other's heads. Unbelievable.
And since it's doubtful we will do a Miles Davis "Let's Rank" any time soon, I decided to rank what I've heard so far. These are the albums I've heard at least 2 times, so have some opinion relatively set on them.
Kind of blue (1959)
In a silent way (1969)
My Funny Valentine (1965)
Sketches of Spain (1960)
Ascenseur pour l'echafaud (1958)
Tribute to Jack Johnson (1971)
Porgy and Bess (1959)
On The Corner (1972)
Miles Ahead (1957)
Birth of the Cool (1957)
Files De Kilimanjaro (1968)
Miles Smiles (1967)
Milestones (1958)
'Round About Midnight (1957)
E.S.P. (1965)
Bitches Brew (1970)
Water Babies (1976)
Dark Magus (1977)
And it should be noted every one of those albums I at least very much liked. Most of them blew my mind. I really am starting to see Miles had the greatest discography, like, ever. Even more immense and full of gems than Bob Dylan. Goddamn amazing!
Some of the classics (from all accounts) that I've embarrassingly not gotten too are Walkin', Workin' with the Miles Davis Quintet, Steamin'..., Relaxin'..., Miles In The Sky, Nefertiti, Someday My Prince Will Come, Friday and Saturday Night at the Blackhawk, Sorcerer, Live-Evil, Live at the Fillmore, Agharta, Get Up With It, Pangaea, & Seven Steps to Heaven.
Yeah its pretty much between Davis and Dylan for co-GOAT status in my book.
We should totally as a collective whole just go on a Miles tangent. We should also do a Let's Rank for him.
