I'm pretty impartial to lyrics in general, and usually prefer how the words sound. Not to say that some lyrics don't deeply resonate with me, just it's much more of a rare occurrence than the music doing so. Here's some albums where the lyrics either sound really good or the actual meaning is really good (i.e. resonant)

Strange Cacti by Angel Olsen

Spirit They're Gone, Spirit They've Vanished by Avey Tare & Panda Bear

Red House Painters (Rollercoaster) by Red House Painters

Good Kid, M.A.A.D City by Kendrick Lamar

If You're Feeling Sinister by Belle & Sebastian

Spiderland by Slint

Histoire De Melody Nelson by Serge Gainsbourg

Bert Jansch by Bert Jansch

Defo agree with Tom re. B&S - they need to be on your chart pronto. There's a fair bit of chaff been spouted on this thread (a couple of usual suspects being responsible), so tread carefully with the recs you're getting...

As for me...

Dread Beat An' Blood by Poet & The Roots

The Holy Bible by Manic Street Preachers

Grotesque (After The Gramme) by The Fall

And the first 10 places in your chart should all be Half Men Half Biscuit albums.

Tough to go wrong with '60s Dylan and great shout from mecca with that Bill Fay record. Here are some more must-hear lyrical classics.

Songs From A Room by Leonard Cohen

Illmatic by Nas

Have One On Me by Joanna Newsom

Rain Dogs by Tom Waits

John Prine... yes! Thank you! Is Bruised Orange not a better pick, though?...

No. John Prine is MUCH better lyrically.

The Blue Mask by Lou Reed

Warren Zevon by Warren Zevon
