Will The Circle Be Unbroken by Nitty Gritty Dirt Band

Oh man, I love this album. My dad's had all three volumes of this for years, it's fantastic.

Thanks for the recs!

I want some albums which are kinda weepy, emotional, cathartic a bit. Albums which play into my sad sack sensibilities, but aren't too overly ridiculous. Albums which seem to have a real "man my life is seeming to really be pointless and I lost the thing I love" but have a certain implied or direct thread or concept of this vibe throughout.

Not to pigeonhole the recs into indie rock but just to give an example of something that's what I'm looking for maybe like this:

The Meadowlands by The Wrens

?

Again if you think of albums which are similarly heart breaking but not the same genre as the wrens, still hit me up. OOH I love real tearjerker moments which are about jilted love, unrequited love, disintegration of relationships, oh hell yes! Getting excited just thinking about it lol.

Thanks!

Ps. Don't worry about me. I'm just moody. In the mood for a fellow sad bastard (or lady) to sing to me about seemingly the same shit I feel in my middle class life. Peace.

Well Merc, it so happens I am listening to

The Infinite Circle by Sophia

which might be right down your alley. Also yesterday, I relistened to

Polar, Bipolar, which is heartrending as hell, but maybe even less than his debiut:

Polar 1 by Polar

which I don't really recommendto anyone truly depressed. The record starts with the line "I lost my friends / fuck them and fuck myself", to the sound of a DIY acoustic guitar amateurishly plucked. Consider yourself warned.

Looking for jazzy psych rock. Maybe with a little prog thrown in there.

Think along these lines:

Reminds me of Bitches Brew, but I guess you already have listened to that one. Why don't you try (if you haven't) Jack Johnson, also by Miles, or Emergency!, by The Tony Williams Lifetime?

You might also like Luis Alberto Spinetta (and his bands Almendra, Invisible, etc.), he's the first artist that popped up in my mind when I read 'jazzy psych rock with a little prog thrown in there'. It sounds a lot different from Masahiko Sato, though.

I don't know if you're familiar with Carissa's Wierd (they fit this pretty well themselves) but one of their singers Jenn Ghetto's solo stuff is just devastating (and beautiful). She releases under the name S and her album I'm Not As Good At It As You is one of the best ever. and the guitar is so fucking gorgeous. It used to be free to stream on her bandcamp but not anymore unfortunately. The bandcamp sells it as being for fans of "Carissa's Wierd, Elliott Smith, John Frusciante, Lisa Germano, Built To Spill, Grand Archives, Low, Beyoncรฉ."

also if you really wanna get deep into sad-land there is always Giles Corey.

Wow! Thanks this is great! I'm very unfamiliar with Carissa's weird. I've heard songs about leaving once in the background a year ago and remember thinking this is good. But for whatever reason I never went back.

And I'll also check out her solo stuff you mentioned. Giles Corey is in another level of depression. Not there yet lol.

And THANK YOU TOO, Norman. I promise I will get on those recs soon.

Welcome to my world.

The obvious answer is Red House Painters, but you already knew that.

but maybe these will do...

Creep On Creepin' On by Timber Timbre

We Live In Rented Rooms by East River Pipe

All Alone In An Empty House by Lost In The Trees

Stitches by Califone

Howth by Howth

and plenty of Low
