link in sig for those interested, though it probably won't be a super representative list until November. i'm finishing out September with some huge compilations i'm behind on, and October is metal month for a new custom chart, so I figure November and December will be when this chart gets actual focused attention. best time of year for that sort of thing anyway, innit
I am waiting until the end of the year to make a 2015 chart, and I restrict my year charts to 10 albums. A few of my current top 10 are not in the database, but here is my top 10 so far:

1. Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp A Butterfly: There's nothing for me to say about this that hasn't been said. Not as good as Good Kidd M.A.A.D. City in my opinion but that's extremely irrelevant.
2. Earl Sweatshirt - I Don't Like Shit, I Don't Go Outside: If this was longer I'd list it above TPAB, but Kendrick's album has too much going on and too much to discover with each listen to not be number 1. But Earl has finally capitalized on his potential here, creating perhaps the most introspective hip hop album I've ever heard. It's super refreshing to hear self-aware (and sometimes self-deprecating) musings in a genre known mostly for being braggadocious. "Faucet" is my favorite song of the year.
3. Sufjan Stevens - Carrie & Lowell: My favorite Sufjan album by far - the minimalism here beats the lushness of Illinoise or Age of Adz. I saw him live at Eaux Claires and he pounded on his piano screaming "we're all gonna die!" for about two minutes after finishing Fourth of July and it was incredibly haunting.
4. Liturgy - The Ark Work: This might be the album with the lowest average rating on RYM that I enjoy, and I'm not at all surprised by that. But honestly this is incredible - yes it's dumb and theatrical but that's why I love it. If nothing else it doesn't sound like anything else.
5. Hop Along - Painted Shut: The best rock album since (probably) Attack On Memory and one of the most exciting rock albums of the decade. There's too much boring by-the-numbers indie rock out there that it's nice to hear something that sounds fresh, even if it is just because of the vocals.
6. Czarface - Every Hero Needs a Villain: Not representative of 2015 as a whole and possibly a little outdated sounding in parts, but it's fun and smart so what's not to like?
7. Courtney Barnett - Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit: I heard this album was coming out around the time I was full-on obsessed with Andrew Jackson Jihad and was looking for another band with their style of witty defeatism. This sounded like it fit the bill, and it didn't disappoint. I've heard people say it sounds samey, but I actually think there's tons of variety here.
8. Colin Stetson & Sarah Neufeld - Never Were The Way She Was: I don't know enough about post-minimalism or saxophones or violins or experimenting to say why I like this but I really do. It's relaxing but never uninteresting.
9. Wavves X Cloud Nothings - No Life For Me: Maybe not really an album but I don't care because it's tons of fun. It sounds exactly like what a combination of the two bands would sound like so maybe it loses points for predictability, but again - fun. "Come Down" was my song of the summer.
10. Failure - The Heart Is a Monster: Also not representative of 2015, but I was expecting a let-down of epic proportions. Fantastic Planet is one of my favorite albums and I was kind of hoping they wouldn't ever try to follow it up (especially after nearly two decades away). But it really exceeded my expectations and even manages to try some things that weren't attempted on it's predecessor. Fantano said he didn't listen to this because he didn't want to be disappointed - Anthony, if you're reading this, I don't think you will be (although I disagree on almost all of your scores so who knows). _________________ And it's hard to be a human being.
