I'm in the camp of thinking it's a bit of a head-scratcher, but I think the idea sans pursuing random celebrities to give their opinion is at heart a good one. I think people who have made a mark on music who have shared lists with the world should have their lists compiled here, for sure. We learn more about their influences, which can help in the appreciation of their music (realizing Cobain so loved twee pop really helped me re-contextualize a lot of his work, for example). People who make big artistic contributions also tend to have more specialized knowledge in certain areas than the typical music nerd, who will have a broader reach, and people like John Peel being at one end of the distribution network and being sort of the gatekeeper of what will and won't be heard more widely lends to the value of his charts. If we take critics seriously enough to give publications their own lists on the site, we might as well give artists and industry people that same respect.
