2016 Tour: January 28th, Orpheum Theatre, Madison, WI by Umphrey's McGee
first disc is lengthy largely instrumental guitar heavy jazzy rock jams with just a touch of power chord and staccato picking indulgence and a healthy dose of saxophone goodness (not unlike what Monster Magnet might sound like if they mellowed out a bit and started listening to a bunch of jazz), and it's pretty good, but then disc 2 is a fully improvised jazz-rock jam sesh that is equal parts Grateful Dead and Weather report with just a touch of Colour Haze's brand of stoned heavy psych jamming, ultimately ending in a deliberately and actually kind of endearingly self-indulgent "Don't You (Forget About Me)" cover which is entirely unnecessary but I'm still kinda glad it's there ๐คฃ . Good stuff all around, but that second disc might be some of the most fun I've had all year
Oh shit I didn't know anyone else was into Umphrey's McGee here _________________ Progressive Rock
yes that matmos album is up there with their best work, I'm really digging it.
oh and there's a 128 kbps leak of the animal collective album recorded via a warped record on some poor equipment. I'd advise waiting on listening to that one.
Basically imagine if some veteran noise-rockers (think something of an energetic mid-point between Boris and Fushitsusha with teeny tiny hints of black metal) listened to nothing but Faust IV for 5 months straight. If they made an album it might sound something kinda like this. Recommend to fans of the rockier dronier side of Krautrock and the kind of noise rock that takes massive cues from "Sister Ray" above all else. Fun stuff
