Currently experiencing my first taste of the new Stein Urheim record with meccalecca on Dubtrack and it sounds bloody great. Hyped.
So yeah this is fantastic. Fans of Fahey, Basho, Stara Rzeka: jump in. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.
this OME/Paul White tape is everything I hoped it would be and more. Holy shit. Possible AOTY after a few more listens. (also on a related note and to a lesser extent the new Ras G/Koreatown Oddity album is well-worth checking out)

Really enjoyed both first time through. Definitely see them rising towards top of my chart for the year, once I have more time.
I've been posting a run down of new releases every Friday on Mecca Lecca to keep up to speed on everything

Just for more exposure, this album is amazing and everyone should listen to it.
From my music diary:
Quote:
This is without a doubt one of the best hip-hop records I've heard this year. Nyck Caution blends excellent songwriting with great production to make an exceptionally memorable album. Production-wise, there's a lot, from traditional-style beats to melodic hooks, strings, and spacey synths, there's a lot of variety that keeps you interested. Along with that are Nyck Caution's fantastic and poignant lyircs, with the highlight coming from "Out of Reach", a song that takes the listener through the mind of the friends of a guy who committed suicide (referencing the suicide of Capital Steez). It's brutally honest and heart-wrenching, as Caution details his thoughts on his friend's suicide:
Shit I thought you were a legend
And of course you manifested what you thought and I admire that
I was denying that it happened till they fired back
And everybody had a question which required that
The truth be spoken
But I ain't even accept it, how we supposed to be progressive when our roots are broken
Yo, and you know Id give you all of me
I swear that old fucking milk couldn't spoil me
Imma always ride with you, 'til the day I lie with you
That's called loyalty
It's beautiful stuff, and he delivers it really well. It's an album that you will fixate on, both the music and the lyrics, and it's a great hip-hop album.
As one of the suckers who decided to pre-order the version of Painting With that came with an animated slipmatt (got the Panda Bear sleeve, obvs), part of the deal was an additional 7" that came a few weeks after release. Well, it came today and Gnip Gnop is flippin' ace. Sounds like a Smile-era Beach Boys cast off injected with psychedelic sherbet, not a million miles away from FloriDada and easily better than 3/4 of the tracks on the LP itself if you ask me. The B-Side Hounds Of Bairro shares the vocal gymnastics of the main set and is a pretty decent track too. Both well worth a listen. _________________ 'Reggae' & t'ing Folk 'n Stuff SHAMELESS RECORD DEALER PLUG
