Hello everyone. I grew up in the 60s and 70s, and lived in NYC when punk and new wave killed disco. (Thank goodness.) My chart reflects my nearly 50 years of listening to rock. It's more a chart of my 40 favorite albums. New stuff and old stuff.

Nice to see another old fart here who can still appreciate non-retro contemporary music _________________ http://jonnyleather.com

I've heard of 56-year-olds, but I've never seen one in the flesh. I just figured they were theoretical.

You're disliking of disco reminds me of my disliking of rap. Anyways, we're not meant to like all genres. Welcome aboard this crazy train known as BEA.

I did not intend my introductory post to be a referendum on disco. I was in NYC between 1977 and 1981 when disco was going full speed ahead, but New Wave surpassed it. I actually went to clubs like Studio 54 and Xenon (which was the cool version of Studio 54). But then the cool clubs became CBGBs, Max's Kansas City and Hurrahs.
I liked disco to dance to, but not to listen to. There are a handful of disco songs in my Spotify playlist (e.g. 10 Percent by Double Exposure, Heaven Must be Missing an Angel by Tavares, and This Is It by Dan Hartman) but songs like A Fifth of Beethoven indicated the genre had reached its limits.
There is still good disco music out there. (Check out the band Escort for good new disco.)
However, the reality is that post-Beatles, rock was kind of in a bad phase until punk and new wave saved it. Bands like Jethro Tull could not fill the post-Beatles vacuum. (Uh-oh... Here come the Jethro Tull fans...)
