I completely agree with Romanelli (sorry Rocky). I bought this album when it came out because it was supposed to be a great guitar album but to me it's one of the worst guitar albums ever (I can't describe it better than Romanelli did). There isn't one inspired moment on it.
About the snippets of nonsense: At the start of "Answers" someone says in Dutch: "De antwoorden zijn altijd al aanwezig": "the answers have always been present": what a load of bollocks.

Duuuuuuuude but Passion & Warfare is AMAZING

For The Love Of God is one of the greatest guitar solos in the history of music, and The Audience Is Listening is killer.

Maybe it's just cause I'm a guitar nerd, but this album is one of the best guitar albums ever released

Sorry, man...I'm just not a fan. ๐Ÿ™

Danzig 4p by Danzig

DANZIG
4
1994-AMERICAN
Produced By GLENN DANZIG & RICK RUBIN

1. Brand New God
2. Little Whip
3. Cantspeak
4. Going Down To Die
5. Until You Call On The Dark
6. Dominion
7. Bringer Of Death
8. Sadistical
9. Son Of The Morning Star
10. I Don't Mind The Pain
11. Stalker Song
12. Let It Be Captured

From the full throttle punk of The Misfits through the torturous metal of Samhain rose Glenn Danzig. Best known for the Bevis & Butthead endorsement of "Mother" from their debut album, Danzig is at their best on 4. This is not for everyone...you kind of have to think Satan is cool to get it. Cool in a scary way. Goth bands should quiver at the sound of this...it's dark, it's heavy, and it's kinda frightening. Is Danzig serious? Let's hope not...maybe this is just for entertainment purposes, and we don't have to lock our doors when he's in town.

There are no hits here, and you get the feeling he likes it that way. What you do have is a steady, uncompromised heavy metal album that makes bands like AC/DC seem like choir boys. Highlights? If this music is for you, just let it play all the way through. You'll be one happy camper. After "Let It Be Captured", turn it off. There are 53 blank tracks at the end, leading up to a senseless dirge with no musical merit.

White City: A Novel by Pete Townshend

PETE TOWNSHEND
WHITE CITY: A NOVEL
1985-ATCO
Produced By CHRIS THOMAS

1. Give Blood
2. Brilliant Blues
3. Face The Face
4. Hiding Out
5. Secondhand Love
6. Crashing By Design
7. I Am Secure
8. White City Fighting
9. Come To Mama

Sometimes, Pete Townshend gets a little too ambitious for his own good. White City is a concept album about a low income housing area in London, and the crime and racial tensions that went along with it. There was a film that went along with the album, now long forgotten. The albums best known song, "Face The Face", is also maybe the most annoying track Townshend has ever recorded, and it brings the rest of the record down severely. How this could have been the hit is very strange. This is not Pete's best work, but there are some bright moments, and the listen is not a bad one.

"Brilliant Blues" is an excellent song, but the best is "White City Fighting". David Gilmour wrote the music, and asked Townshend to provide lyrics so Gilmour could record it. Gilmour didn't like the lyrics, so Pete recorded it for this album, with Gilmour playing guitar. It's a great song. As for the rest, it's not bad...but you'd expect more from Townshend. And you're not wrong for that.

Wild Planet by The B-52's

THE B-52'S
WILD PLANET
1980-WARNER BROTHERS
Produced By RHETT DAVIES & THE B-52'S

1. Party Out of Bounds
2. Dirty Back Road
3. Runnin' Around
4. Give Me Back My Man
5. Private Idaho
6. Devil In My Car
7. Quiche Lorraine
8. Strobe Light
9. 53 Miles West Of Venus

There's never been a party band quite like The B-52's...or any other kind of band like them. Wild Planet is their second album, and it's loaded with fun. "Party Out Of Bounds", "Quiche Lorraine", and "Strobe Light" are trippy hoots, and "Give Me Back My Man" is excellent. Of course, there's also the classic weirdness of "Private Idaho". These songs helped make the 52's huge. Wanna start a party? put this record on.

There is a bit of filler, but this and their debut album are the band at their best. You really can't go wrong with either of them. The B-52's were the epitome of doing something different, and they made it fun. There's never been another band like them, something that's very rare in rock.

Down The Road by Stephen Stills' Manassas

MANASSAS
DOWN THE ROAD
1973-ATLANTIC
Produced By STEPHEN STILLS, CHRIS HILLMAN & DALLAS TAYLOR

1. Isn't It About Time
2. Lies
3. Pensamiento
4. So Many Times
5. Business On The Street
6. Do You Remember The Americans
7. Down The Road
8. City Junkies
9. Guaguanco De Vero
10. Rollin' My Stone

Manassas is basically a Stephen Stills solo project. Recorded with the help of some top shelf friends (Chris Hillman & Joe Walsh), this, the 2nd Manassas effort, has tons of promise. It starts out with a blast, the excellent "Isn't It About Time", and there are some great Byrds-like moments throughout. There are also unfortunately a few headscratchers..."Pensamiento" and "Guaguanco De Vero" are unfortunate Spanish excursions, and it sometimes sounds like Stills is trying to hard to show his versatility rather than do what he does best. The good songs are really good...but keep that flipper handy for the others.

Stills as a solo artist began to fade after his first album, and the Manassas albums were no exception. Outside of a handful of CSN/CSNY recordings, you can pretty much skip anything he's done since pretty much Stephen Stills 2.

The Clash by The Clash

THE CLASH
1977-EPIC
Produced By MICKEY FOOTE, LEE PERRY, BILL PRICE & THE CLASH

1. Clash City Rockers
2. I'm So Bored With The USA
3. Remote Control
4. Complete Control
5. White Riot
6. White Man In Hammersmith Palais
7. London's Burning
8. I Fought The Law
9. Janie Jones
10. Career Opportunities
11. What's My Name
12. Hate And War
13. Police And Thieves
14. Jail Guitar Doors
15. Garageland

I don't care what anyone says about The Sex Pistols...The Clash were the greatest punk band ever. And their debut album, The Clash, is the best pure raw punk album ever made. While the Pistols were angry about what was happening in front of their faces, The Clash were angry about what was happening in the world. This album is loaded with the fury that punk was meant to be...and the songs are damn catchy as well. If you like punk even a little bit, this should be at the center of your collection.

However, the release of this album in the US was delayed for 2 years, and issued with different songs (this is the US version). The UK version is even better, and if the record company had any brains, the would combine the two along with their early non album singles to make an easy 5 star collection. Hasn't happened yet...maybe never will. So if you can get your hands on the British version of this, so much the better.

Electric Warrior by T. Rex

T. REX
ELECTRIC WARRIOR
1971-REPRISE
Produced By TONY VISCONTI

1. Mambo Sun
2. Cosmic Dancer
3. Jeepster
4. Monolith
5. Lean Woman Blues
6. Bang A Gong (Get It On)
7. Planet Queen
8. Girl
9. The Motivator
10. Life's A Gas
11. Rip Off

The fact that T. Rex is known in the US exclusively for "Bang A Gong" is sad...because in the early 70's, this was a great band. Electric Warrior was the height of their (well, mainly Marc Bolan's) career. This album does contain "Bang A Gong", but it's also loaded with songs that should have been hits..."Mambo Sun", Jeepster", "Rip Off"...all classic tracks. This is glam at it's best, right alongside David Bowie. If you're only going to have one T. Rex album, Electric Warrior should be that one.

This album was followed by The Slider and Tanx, both terrific albums. Then Bolan fell off the planet, changing styles with disastrous results. But for a time, he was almost as good as it got.
