The weather is getting colder which means it's the perfect time of year to listen to some metal. It's a genre that's sadly under-represented in the charts for this site, and though it seems a lot of people are interested in ranking films, I am not one of those people. So, metal tournament anyone? Even in a metal tournament we need rules, so here they are: 1. All subgenres of metal allowed. Heavy, black, doom, death, sludge, stoner, pagan, thrash, drone, power, speed, Viking, pirate, nu, hair, glam, whatever. I don't want to have any arguments about what is and isn't metal, so RYM's genre designations will be the final decider on whether an album is metal or not should disagreements arise. 2. Album pool consists of 64 albums, starting with one three nominations per user. 3. Only albums outside the top 750 albums in the overall chart are eligible. This is because everyone lots of people have heard Master of Puppets and Number of the Beast and I want to uncover some hidden gems. 750 is a pretty arbitrary number, but it's consistent with the Hip Hop tournament from a few years back, and honestly there are probably more hip hop albums in the top 750 than metal albums. I was going to nominate a Boris album but decided on Windhand instead, glad to see one got nominated.

Definitely not too late, still looking for 26 more albums to hit 64. If you've only picked one or two please feel free to nominate another. I'll give it until the end of the day and then maybe give people extra picks if needed; I'd like for people who haven't seen the thread yet to get their picks in first though.

I'm thinking about starting the first round of matchups about a week after nominations finish to give people time to start listening. Then we'll do four matchups per week, with each match open for 7 days. After the first round everyone should have heard most/all of the albums so I'll decrease it to three or four days per matchup.

I'll randomize the matchups right after we get all the albums so people know which matchups will come first.

Nice! I made this chart to help keep track of the nominations as well. It started as something I'd use to keep track of listening to each, but it may be useful for you folks as well. I put it in Chronological order as accurately as I could based off day and month of RELEASE. And I'll be keeping it up to date as best I can.
