A couple atmospheric black metal masterpieces here. Bergtatt is ranked 39 on the all metal genre chart on RYM. At The Heart of Winter is at 69. Both are essential records. Both are really in my wheelhouse thanks to this tournament and the people who nominated them. Thank you both.
As for my vote, Jeez. This was definitely the toughest choice for me in this round. I really love both. I've heard Bergtatt much more (maybe 8 listens to 3 for the Immortal album). I ended up voting for "At The Heart of Winter". Something about the atmosphere of that album is haunting. It's more abrasive and I feel there's more going on musically than on Bergtatt. Not to say Bergtatt doesn't have some serious depth. It may be a more emotional album, and a more gorgeous one too. But In all I feel Immortal really nailed the dark, cold atmosphere on that album. Again, painfully close in my mind but Immortal it is. _________________ -Ryan
