1-hour artist challenge - Music - Forums : Best Ever Albums

Ladies & Gents, some friends and I have invented ourselves a little game. That I thought some people around here might enjoy as well. It's called the One hour artist challenge. The gist of it is this: Take an artist that you know very well, that has a catalog that is at least somewhat extensive. (more than 3 albums, preferably.) Create a playlist that is no more than 12 songs long, and no more than 1 hour in length. (Less is ok, but must be long enough to be considered album length) Rules: 1. playlist must be built with tracklist in mind. (build it so that is flows cohesively as a good album would) 2. playlist must include a deep enough tracklist so that a big fan of the band would enjoy said playlist. (for example, if I were to create a Pearl Jam playlist and only included Jeremy, Black, Daughter, etc., this would bore a Pearl Jam fan and would be no different from what you would guess would be on a store bought greatest hits. 3. playlist must include enough well-known/popular songs so that it would not bore a novice listener of the band. [The combination of items 2 and 3 creating a situation where the playlist could be enjoyed by all, you could put it on at a social gathering without turning a group off of the music, but a more novice listener might enjoy the music and even learn some great new tunes they haven't been exposed to.) Hi. I'm super new to this forums interactions, but i saw this really interesting thread yesterday and worked in a playlist of Queen Songs.

For this list, I picked 80's Queen songs, many of them widely popular but overlooked by critical acclaim. I thought this would make this more challenging and fun to build (and it really was).

I think I made a decent job mixing popular Queen stuff with some hidden gems in their catalogue, while exploring this band's strongest points: Great range of musical styles, Freddie's potent vocals (early eighties was his peak IMO) and easy listening songs.

Gotta admit that it's so damn satisfying to make these track listings. Makes you wonder "what if this were an actual album released by this artist". So exciting.

Taking a trip through my teenage years I suppose. Here's The Smashing Pumpkins in chronological order, but lost interest after Teargarden By Kaleidyscope... but really this band rotted out from the inside, as important as they are to my musical journey in life.

That's awesome. Jimmy's drumming might be as much as 40% of why I dig this band.
