I had never heard of Angus & Julia Stone before this. First, I was a little puzzled that my intro to them would be their least critically acclaimed record. But I love indie pop as a genre, so I was nonetheless intrigued. But unfortunately, it turns out this Aussie couple does not make my kind of indie pop. Some of the songs sound pleasant, but as a body of work it feels too slick, too safe, and too lacking in substance. If I had to describe their sound, it is like if Of Monsters And Men and Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros had a baby, and that baby made this record while on sleeping pills. 2.5/5.

For Chief, here's something I added to the database recently:
This was good. Not the biggest fan of this album. Feels a bit one noted but it's still a good album. It went by quickly and the tunes do knock. Just not something I would go crazy for.
Now my pick for Bay. If we are doing stuff for Halloween, I would always think of this album:
Boards Of Canada's sophomore album Geogaddi from 2002
This is one of the things I considered for my greatest chart, but it's just a bit too experimental for what I was going for. Obviously John Cage and David Tudor are two of the greatest innovators in electronic music, and anyone who is slightly interested in the history of electronic music should check this out.
If we are going on a Halloween, unnerving and spooky theme, then I'll suggest this. One of the preeminent Dark Ambient albums and currently on my greatest chart.
I first heard this last year and liked it a good deal, so I was happy to revisit it. I agree that it is a good pick for Halloween. However, the more I listen to Boards Of Canada, the less creepy and the more friendly I find their music. I can sense that this one is a grower. It's already my favorite record of theirs, and it just has to grow a little more on me for my assessment to shift from good to great. I think I prefer this atmospheric side of IDM to the more straightforward examples of the genre. 3.5/5.
It's on YouTube. If you've heard this and don't want to again, PM me and I can send you something else. Didn't pick this for a Halloween theme btw. _________________ Join us in the canon game :) / Add me on RYM
This album is beautiful, like everything else I had heard by Gil Scott Heron before. It's so inspiring and it's like taking one breath of fresh air in such weird times in this country. Heron is a real icon. I would highlight the track Song of the Wind.
So I finish the album up.
Damn, this was great. For 1990, it does obtain a vibe that's desolate and huge. And it does have shape and feels endless. My only complaint for now is that, to me doesn't speak to me on a visceral or spellbinding level. But whenever I get more albums under my belt for 1990, this will get in.
My pick for whoever this is for:
A vaporwave release from 2016 called I Was Lost In My Dream by Saki.
