This was a good exercise in musique concrète, but also more interesting than enjoyable. I would have liked it a lot more with a more compact runtime. After almost an hour I was very ready for it to be done. 3/5.

Glad to get another UK hip hop album under my belt, and a classic boom bap one at that. There are a lot of good things about this record and some so-so things, but it was overall a good experience. It should not be 75 minutes long, and some of the lyrics are a bit comical (unintentionally, I think), but it's fairly consistent and engaging. Good dark instrumentals.
Baystate, I don't know if you've heard any Roy Montgomery before, but go ahead and go for it. It's much different than his previous records. I probably need to give it a spin again, actually.

Huh... this is probably the most impressive post-proto metal album I've ever heard. Incredibly dynamic and some songwriting that actually starts to rival actual good songwriters and singers. I didn't feel like I was listening to meathead testosterone banging fools. It still has a tinge of unbelievable gothic-ness to them and near the end it lost some appeal, but I was wowed nonetheless. 85.

I was going to mention the first part. Also maybe it's due to how other user of that time either migrated to other websites, or maybe it's the time period. Can't really say what is the defining factor of it.

Not bad. Quite entertaining with good variety. Some things worked for me, like the unusual use of opera singing in Apocalypse, the total reinterpretation of Guantanamera, the sampling of Staying Alive in We Trying To Stay Alive, and the mostly positive vibe. It did start to drag a bit towards the end and so felt a bit too long for me, and I just don't get the prominent use of skits in hip hop. Not that these one's were bad, and I get that they were trying to make a mockery of the legal system, but they hardly ever make me laugh, and I just want the next song to start instead because I'm here for the music not the comedy. It would have been an 8/10 without the skits, but it's a 7.5/10 with, and 31/40 for 1997.

Before this, I had never heard anything by Montgomery or by any groups he has been a member of. This made for a unique introduction, as this album is rated one of his worst records on RYM. I liked the concept and the hypnotic properties. Cool artwork and sound palette too. The music itself ranged from good to really good, spending enough time in the latter category to earn a 3.5/5.

Hmm...interesting. I don't keep a collection of albums anymore (except for my old CDs and a few vinyl) but if I did I don't think I could bring myself to delete single songs from my favourite albums, even if there was one or two I really didn't like.
