However I don’t see how this particular Agalloch song isn’t a good representation of the 2000s and Agalloch’s own opus

As someone who has followed Agalloch since 2003 and participated in metal communities between 2003 and 2009, I can help best contextualize this. There are three songs that were discussed as standout tracks from The Mantle as well as were regularly played on metal community stations at the time. Ghost was not one of them. This is the basis that Ghost is a weird choice. A Desolation Song, In the Shadow of Our Pale Companion, and The Lodge are those three songs that are not only memorable but more significant in representing Agalloch from that exact point in time.

The Lodge and Desolation Song along with Celebration intro are literally the 3 songs off of Mantle that I would say don't work outside the album. Hawthorne Passage is a better instrumental representation of Agalloch, and Desolation Song is impactful as the last song imo. But to each their own I guess.
