Vision Creation Newsun by ボアダムス [Boredoms]

Oh wow! This is awesome! I loved listening to Super æ as part of Tap's Get To Know A Top 10, and based on my first listen I'd say this soars to even greater heights. A joyful piece of music that is somehow simultaneously peaceful and intense. Drifting through this heavy, trippy soundscape really helped me relax after a long day at work. An intricate and inspired work of art. 4.5/5.

Beyond Gravity by Nu Era

The first few albums I tried off of this chart had me a little concerned, but the last 3 have me wanting to listen to all of these back to back. This was probably the most direct of any of the albums that I've listened to so far, but it still has a broad of enough sound palette to negate some of the repetition that plagues all techno music. Tracks have the ability to go hard and chill out in equal measure, which is usually what I want. I don't want an hour of tranciness, but I also don't want something that's nonstop either. This fits squarely at a happy medium between the two.

Baystate, glad you liked Boredoms that much. Yamantaka Eye is a madman!

It's overlong, but Unwound's "Leaves Turn Inside You" is one of the more unique Post-hardcore albums out there.

You Made Me Realise by My Bloody Valentine

This is one from the list that I have heard before. My housemate used to own this, but I probably haven't heard it in over thirty years. It really is a great EP that already showed the greatness that was to come, and You Made Me Realise is right up there with my favourite MBV songs. So grateful to have the reason to listen to this blast from the past again. 8.5/10, and it moves up a few spots to 24/35 in my 1988 chart.

How about trying Monrella- Studio 1-7 next.

Leaves Turn Inside You by Unwound

This is easily the most mellow post-hardcore album I've ever heard, to the point where its position in the genre seems tenuous. It's also a bit of an epic. Yes, it probably would work better with 20-30 minutes trimmed off. But it's hard to determine which 20-30 minutes, because the quality is so consistently good. I have no complaints about the vocals or the musicianship. Its consistency works the other way too though, as it's hard to point to any clear highlights after one listen. It may have gone in one ear and out the other a bit, but I did really enjoy this. 3.5/5.

Studio 1-7 by Monrella

Man, Mick Harris gets around. Drummer for a thrash metal band, ambient producer as Lull, and many many others; now, here's a techno album from him. It's not outstanding, but for this kind of hard hitting loopy techno, it works pretty well.

Tindersticks make some great music. This album is also a bit long, but consistently good, like the previous.

Chronic Town by R.E.M.

I am big fan of R.E.M. According to last.fm they are in my top 10 most listened to artists, and that's just for the last three years since I joined. They have been a favourite of mine since Document days. But I had never heard this EP in full before, so a couple of songs were new to me. And they were just as great as the others. I actually enjoyed them doing something different with Stumble and rocking out a little bit for the final track. Great debut EP that really does show how good they were right from the start. 8.5/10, and 4/25 for 1982.

Let's go with Speed Jack next

Stand! by Sly & The Family Stone

This is an awesome record, with a lot of components that are easy to like. The group's democratic vocal delivery is incredible, for one. The lyrics aren't the greatest, but they're succinct and get their point across...especially the disarming manner of "Don't Call Me ******, Whitey" and "Everyday People". And the mother******* grooves, man. "Sing A Simple Song" has one of the coolest funk grooves I've ever heard. It sounds like the riff in "Sex Machine" (I thought beforehand that this would be a cover of James Brown's "Sex Machine", doesn't seem to be) is where Joe Walsh lifted at least the bridge to "Rocky Mountain Way". Couldn't help but place it where I had already heard it.

I went ahead and crossed There's A Riot Goin' On off the list, as well. As much as I loved the sunshiny-ness of Stand!, Riot (with all its abstractions) towers over it, to me. I wish I hadn't skipped over these two albums as much as I had.

Alright, Chief. That album at #1 should surely be less monotonous.

Guidance by Bandulu

I think the ranking on a list like this is fairly arbitrary, but I could see why an album like this would be high on the list. It's 1993. It's remarkably Detroit Techno-sounding, but it's made by Brits, and it has a good blend of atmosphere and drive. It takes a lot of time to get through, but it was pretty good. There have been better ones so far though.

Black Messiah for sure.

Tinderbox by Siouxsie And The Banshees

I owned two Siouxsie albums, Hyena, and Once Upon A Time, at the time, and later Twice Upon A Time, and I listened to them all a lot, but I haven't listened to an album of theirs since streaming came around, just songs here and there of course. That's a shame really, so I'm so glad to be hearing this now. I know they get a lot of respect, but even so I still think they are a bit under valued in how important they were. An excellent gothic post-punk band when gothic post-punk was in it's prime. I should listen to them more than I do. The first half was stronger, and if I was listening to this in my younger LP days I probably would have played side A a lot more than the side B. Coincidentally I was listening to Cocteau Twins just before this, and it made me think that run from Cocteau Twins to Siouxsie & The Banshees would have been great at a gig or festival. 8/10, and 19/31 for 1986.

Aril Brikha- Deeparture in Time next, Rocka

Deeparture In Time by Aril Brikha

That was an excellent selection of '80s EPs and albums from Baystate's chart, with only one I had heard before. Now Led Zep's all time chart '80s edit. Again just enough for five picks with only a couple of albums I've heard before but not in the last 20 years or more probably.
