Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 1% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 83.2/100, a mean average of 81.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 83.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 17.1.

This album is dark and you know you are in for an unsettling ride right from the start when the first song kicks off with 2 minutes of high pitch droning. This is the first warning you get from the artist that you have to properly dedicate yourself to this record or it will be lost on you. They then proceed to treat you to 74 minutes of pure post hardcore genius. Every song has to be listened to and explored both lyrically and musically which is an impressive achievement for a record as long as this one. Instrumentally, it sounds grand but also disturbing and ominous and puts you on the edge of your seat for the whole listen. This is best displayed on the 10 minute epic that is Terminus. Furthermore, the whispered vocal builds on the instrumental performances to create this brooding atmosphere that completely engulfs you. The first half is near perfection and the second half does slow down a little but there are some phenomenal moments on there that are some of my favourites across the whole run time. Overall, this is a 74 minute dark masterpiece that needs multiple listens to appreciate and is a record that is seriously under rated and under appreciated.
First half of the album is nearly perfect.

A dark tough listen, not for everyone
A very cool listen. I don't really like ending with the canned swing music though it kinda ruins the mood
TheHolyKiwi, have you tried Amazon or Discogs?
Great places to buy stuff that's mostly new
Very Difficult to listen to the first time, but one time that you bring to this train of darkness, the experience is unforgettable. One of the most darkest albums ever.
I've listened to this album, but where the hell do you guys actually buy or get the album? I can't find it anywhere!
A haunting album that gets darker and darker the deeper into it you go. Unwound tells you right from the start that if you dont give this album your full attention for more than an hour you can just fuck off.
The start of this album is fucking sadistic but the rest is so so good. A post-Hardcore masterpiece.
