Uncle Meat by The Mothers Of Invention

This was honestly less bonkers than I expected, and it is at its best when it is at its jazziest. That seems to be the case so far for Zappa's music in general. The rock parts can be fun, but the zaniness gets in the way of the musicianship. While the rock-oriented tracks here feature some great melodies and satisfying heaviness, the satirical elements in the lyrics are usually either not incisive or very dated, and the goofy elements fare worse. In keeping with the jazz is best trend, the six-track King Kong suite that concludes the album is the clear highlight, with the exception of The Gardner Varieties (annoying tones). Uncle Meat is an engaging listen that doesn't feel 75 minutes long. Out of the three Zappa records I've heard, it is not as good as the jazzier Hot Rats, but better than the less jazzy Freak Out. 3.5/5.

This Is Riphop by Death Comet Crew

I'm surprised that this is not more well-known or lauded. It's a compilation from a 1980s hiphop group that were certainly ahead of their time. Heavy plunderphonic-type sampling, use of noise music, weird rapping, it's got it all. Can't think of anything else that was sounding like this at the time. A shame they didn't have a proper album come out then.

Baystate, I'd see what you think of Seventh Tree next. 2008 is a blindspot for me. It's one of my least listened/liked years of music.

Seventh Tree by Goldfrapp

Gorgeous, dreamy music with great production and vocals. This album provided some much-needed relaxation. I can't say that the songs have stuck with me after finishing it, but I enjoyed every minute. This was a good start, and I look forward to checking out more from Goldfrapp in the future. 4/5.

2. I'll go with the Tommy Wright III album, because I've at least heard of him.

Animal Folk Songs For Children: Selecte...ggy Seeger

These songs are a sample of those collected by Peggy's mother (Ruth Seeger) for a book of children's songs which she had had published just a few years prior. Peggy gives them a straightforward, traditional presentation with her gentle, honeyed voice and accompanying herself with frailing banjo and piano. I much prefer the songs with banjo. I doubt I'll revisit this particular collection of children's songs, but it was a good intro to Peggy Seeger's qualities and, at some point, I'll go poking around her discography when I eventually get worked up over frailing again.

Third by Soft Machine

It's probably a good thing I haven't heard this album before. I am sure I wouldn't have liked it in my younger days, and possibly not even a few years ago. Now however, after being exposed to numerous jazz albums playing this game for nearly two years now, I have definitely formed an appreciation for some jazz. So the first couple of jazz-rock songs on this album were enjoyable in an admiration kind of way. Especially considering I imagine this would have been a bit unusual/experimental for a UK album from 1970. However it was the third song, Moon In June, that I really enjoyed in more of an instinctual way (the bit when he sort of stops singing and says "oh, wait a minute" made me chuckle). B the end of the last song I had sort of had enough, but Moon In June was great, and the first two songs good enough for this album to score an 8/10 from me, enter my decade chart at 91/100, and my 1970 chart at 14/22.

As usual a few interesting choices here. I'm probably most likely to enjoy Hertzainak - Hertzainak so I am going with that.

Hertzainak by Hertzainak

An interesting kind of punk rock particular to the Basque region of Spain. It incorporates some ska-type elements and regional influences that make it a bit unique sounding. The saxophone takes over too much sometimes though. ๐Ÿ˜ Good record to have under my belt.

Purple, I'd go with Starsailor next. My favorite Tim Buckley.

Rigs Of The Time by Tara

This is some handsome traditional Irish folk with strong sociopolitical themes, though I guess those sorts of themes aren't uncommon within traditional songs. I can't find any info on the band other than some scraps of info from comments on YouTube. Reportedly, they spent their time gigging around Germany, which seems odd for a traditional Irish band. They might not be so obscure if they had worked the county fair and festival circuit like some of their contemporaries.

I want to find something from the 2010s that I can love. I've listened to five of BEA's top 10 albums of the decade and I've rated those five albums a 39/100 on average. Trying the overall chart might not be the way for me, but I'm gonna give it a go.

BEA's Top Albums of the 2010s:

3. Arcade Fire /--/ The Suburbs
5. Tame Impala /--/ Lonerism
7. Radiohead /--/ A Moon Shaped Pool
8. Vampire Weekend /--/ Modern Vampires of the City

13. Frank Ocean /--/ Channel Orange
14. Tame Impala /--/ Currents

Fabulous Muscles by Xiu Xiu
I've heard 3 of their most recent albums, and I'm pretty sure I tried A Promise at one point. Quality varies. Forget and Plays The Music of Twin Peaks are great, while Girl With A Basket Of Fruit isn't. Fabulous Muscles is their third album from 2004, and it's probably the most compelling of the bunch. Described as their first "accessible" release (it's weird af, but less weird than Plays The Music of Twin Peaks I guess). It has the best songwriting chops and great variety, but it doesn't feel all over the place like Girl With A Basket Of Fruit did. There's even several fantastic ballads (the title track, Little Panda McElroy, Nieces Pieces, Clowne Towne), with that classic Xiu Xiu twist of course. Check these lyrics. Support Our Troops OH! was probably the weirdest song, I though I didn't like it until the last minute and half which sounded like a beautiful GYBE outro. Crank Heart is a fabulous opener, typical Xiu Xiu banger and I Luv the Valley OH! is the most ordinary song I've heard from them, also a banger. There's a weak point here and there, but honestly it's my favourite Xiu Xiu to date. Never lost my attention. Have to listen to A Promise soon. 8.5/10

Feel you Jameth, I also think that at least 30 albums don't deserve to be in that top 100 of 2010s. Judging by your chart (which is fantastic btw!), you might maybe possibly like Helplessness Blues. It also happens to be one of my favourites.
