So this is my third Stereolab record. I have both Dots and Loops as well as Cobra and Phases under my listening belt. The former, I respect the hell out of and also really enjoy, but there is this lingering feeling that my enjoyment has somewhat diminished but can't place my finger as to why. While the latter, I was more positive on but haven't given it a revisit in a while and don't really remember much of it. Well except one song that this might be just me but reminds of a track from Undertale. But back to this album. While there is a looming theory that this might fall in my favor, this was excellent. This might be my favorite of the three I have listen to so far. Cobra needs its revisit. It has probably my favorite long track that I have heard from them. I love how there lounge sound that they would continue to double down in that style is presented were here while being mixed with a rock sound. I kind of went on the album page to see what other commenters were saying and while I do have to listen to some of these albums in full, I could get that plodding quality of Velvet Underground. Though, I could argue and you could put a pin on my statement but I would guess the lounge quality made these songs more engaging compared to Velvet Underground. Otherwise this was enjoyable. And I really need to clean house with Stereolab's discography.
Grade:90, would say a little higher than PJ Harvey's album.

Don't think it will be Dinosaur Jr as the next pick. It might be Blur or Radiohead.
It's funny. Ususally I'm able to accurately determine the influences for an album, and although the individual ideas on here are nothing new and special, there's something about all of them coming together in the way that they do that makes this enigmatic. Even the the band's avant garde concepts are borrowed too (apparently they have always been anonymous and dress up on stage *like The Residents* and they change their name to something different for every release *like Foetus*.) I think everyone knowahow much I like The Residents, so a band like this definitely piques my interest. This band seems to deconstruct folk and bulegrass music to the point of it being nearly unrecognizable, and they use instruments (or instruments that they make themselves) on their recordings that coincide with that kind of music making. This is their 3rd LP, and, at least on RYM is their most acclaimed.
Just read the entry on wikipedia for this band, and you'll see why I'm having some difficulties in describing group and this album.
Oh, and they look like those Neon/ Day Glo punks in Batman and Robin.

I agree on the fact that V.S has been there for so long. Also I wouldn't have thought that being a negative comment for the album. Text as well as certain cues unfortunately can mean anything to anyone.

I almost thought I understood how to do the large image thing but will try again. Anyway my feelings towards this album would be out of the three Pearl Jam albums I have listen to this is my favorite one so far. The other two being Binaural and Gigaton. I will say the album cover perfectly describes the music. The goat (actually thought that was a sheep for a moment) describes how some of these tracks have a lot of bite. Tracks like Go, Rats, Leash and Animal are way more fiery, in your face and honestly just kicks a lot of ass. Realistically, if my phone battery wasn't low and it wasn't 10 pm as I type this, I'd be listening to Rats a couple of time more. Then the farm could be used as the rural backdrop of the more low key tracks on the record. The closer is a key indicator of that aesthetic. And lastly, this is just a fun album. I don't know if its because of the fish eye lens or the goats reaction, but to me at least this was just a fun rock album that I could tell that the band was enjoying themselves. So is Ten going to be better than this?
Grade:95 And as of now this beat Suede's debut. So this would be top 5 for the top 100 canon. For now. Because if I was counting other albums, that Bowie album from 1993 would be a high contender for my personal list of 1993 but also maybe decade list for the 90's.

I don't recall knowing of Soda Stereo until now. Apparently the best selling band in Argentinian history. It's some decent alternative rock, but I've heard way too much of this type of alternative rock for this to move me much in any way. 7/10, and 43/50 for 1990.

Glad you liked the Pearl Jam album. Coincidentally I went to a Pearl Jam tribute act last night (I'm lucky enough to be living where live music is now possible again). They played four songs from this album, Go, Animal, Daughter, and Rearviewmirror.
Where You Been is my favourite Dinosaur Jr album and in my all time top 100, so yes it's my pick for you.

Yeah, I can understand why you love this album Pash. And I love this as well. This is a fun rock album that I could see metal fans somewhat blush at this. While, I end up being somewhat flustered that I didn't know about this. Like this is teetering towards a 10. And I want to give this another revisit as well. Like real soon, just to hear if there are things I might not be ecstatic for. I want to say it was track four, where compared to the rest of the album could be looked as a mid track. But I enjoyed it. But the rest slapped. My question to Pash would be, is this your favorite Dinosaur Jr album? Or is there other album in there catalogue that hit harder or hits an ambitious concept?
Grade:95 but may become a 100.

This is the first true gem I've heard on this latest hip-hop journey. Funcrusher Plus is perhaps best known as marking El-P's debut. As expected, he contributes great work on the mic and behind the boards. His Company Flow peer Bigg Jus might be less known today, but he kills it as well. Rounding out the trio is Mr. Len on scratches and some production. The beats are interesting throughout, working from a boom bap base but expanding on the traditional palette. The content is largely creative boasting, but the two rappers cover other topics as well, such as on the chilling Last Good Sleep. The biggest lyrical flaw I picked up on is the frequent homophobia. My other criticism is that the album could have used some trimming. But overall, it's a great listen that deserves its acclaim. 4/5.

Great review Bay! I agree that it could be trimmed a little, but I have that same issue with a lot of 90s hip hop. I think I got used to it. 8 Steps To Perfection is my jam, but The Fire In Which You Burn Slow is a highlight too.
