I think some of the stuff that I mentioned that were complaints with Fake Train are somewhat alleviated with this record. It rocks really well. The more "harsh" elements are more pleasant and compliments the tunes. And the vocals do keep me interested. Yeah. "So why is it still in the back half of the list as of now?" That's a good question. While it is a great rock album, it doesn't have that distinct punch I'm looking for. This isn't as enveloping like Earth or Swervedriver. Nor does this album have the theatrics like Pj Harvey or an even higher extent Jellyfish. Or is the most addicting like Pearl Jam or Dinosaur Jr. And that's just by my barometer. Still a great rock album, but the competition has been settling piece by piece. And I have a feeling it will continue to be set by 1993 standards.

The cover of California Sun has always been a favorite... had I paid more attention to some of the tracks like Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment and Suzy is a Headbanger, I would've realized they came from this album... other favs. Anyway, glad I finally gave it a go from beginning to end. So, if you've ever wondered where MC Ride from Death Grips came from, then look no further. This is a tough to get through 50 minute album from a group that is clearly not artistically formed yet. The beats are repetitive and the flows and lyrics are as well. At 20 minutes it may be OK, but at 50 it's a chore.

I enjoyed Julian Cope's singles at the time so it was good to hear ana album from his band before he went solo. The album started pretty strong with the first couple of tracks Ha Ha I'm Drowning, and Sleeping Gas, but after that the songs sort of middled out - not bad, but not great either, just good songs (I don't quite get why Treason (It's Just A Story) was one of their highest charting singles - there's better songs on this album). However the album finished on a high with When I Dream. The only song I previously knew, and clearly the standout song on the album. It's probably a little bit unfair on the band and the album, and more a matter of timing of me only hearing the album now, but I think one of my issues is that it doesn't really differentiate itself much, or stand above, other synthy new wave post-punk acts of the time that I already knew and loved for a long time, with fellow Liverpool band Echo & The Bunnymen being the perfect example of that. Although I do also think Echo & The Bunnymen wrote better songs, and even though I like Julian Cope's voice it doesn't quite compare to Ian McCulloch. 7.5/10, and 29/53 in my 1980 chart.
I am going to have a look at the 1980 chart from RoundThe Bend. There is just enough albums if I include one that I haven't yet rated or heard for a very log time but is an old favourite already in my charts.

You know, I really wanted to enjoy this way more than I do. Because this is a good project. Lenny is quite a good artist. And for my first album from him, I did enjoy it. But there was some problems with this that prevented from getting a higher grade from me. For one, this was somewhat similar to Bjork's debut where some of the production choices on this album works against it's favor and could be somewhat muddled. Another thing I would mention, is that while I do enjoy Lenny as a performer, there are also hints where he doesn't have that individual quality to him. Because some of his vocals did remind me of Prince. Not all of it, but I could tell where those cues are coming from. The last I would mention would be while there was a couple of songs that were quite great, I wouldn't say there was anything that realistically blew me away on enjoyment. Probably will look at his career at a later date.

So this would be my fifth album from Kate Bush. And if I want to finish up her discography, I would be working backwards. But on personal enjoyment wise, this was better than Aerial and The Sensual World but not as amazing as Hounds Of Love or 50 Words for Snow. My guess as to why this wasn't as well regarded compared to Hounds or Sensual was that the music climate changed dramatically by 1993 and people who were still on that 80's high was looked as yesterday news. This statement will come back for another album that is on this year end. But I would say the majority if not all of this was quite excellent. I think what hold this back would be some of the production choices, though Lenny and Bjork had it worse. As well as hoping there was a bit of a concept to tie this all together. Curious if this is better than Peter Gabriel's 1992 album? But we will see whenever I decide to tackle it.

This band has a unique approach to noise rock. It's like minmal noise rock. The rhythms are more repetitive as well. Almost like Liars a little bit, which is a comparison some others seem to make. I didn't really get much from it though besides the final track which really mixed well with my dishwasher running in the background.
That group of albums has really gone down hill. Listen to Aerosmith.

Okay, I have been away for a loooong time. Somewhat due to work, somewhat due to the fact this album isn't on apple music or in a single video full album on youtube, and mostly because I've been playing Cyberpunk 2077 and I have been working on a massive singer-songwriter deep dive where I make a list of top 10 singer-songwriter albums in my estimation for each year 1965-2019 (along with about 10-15 albums pre-1965, this comes to something like 570 albums made into charts and ALOT of new listens and relistens and nerdy ranking work outs.). So after all that, the question is did I listen to Reves/Yo Soy and, if so, what were my thoughts?
for one, I did listen to it - the 2 halves were listened to separately as for some reason the record label stopped issuing the 2 individual halves together as originally intended. But I did listen to each seperately. And the first one was great and all over the place. To say it didn't seem focused would be an understatement. Pretty great though how wildly eclectic the whole 50 minutes was! Almost entirely instrumental as well. It's been a couple since I heard it, so not many specific take-aways, it was really gorgeous and i liked it.
The second half was not instrumental and much more convcentional. That's not to say it was cookie-cutter or something. It was actually a really cool and varied rock album (or half album). I loved the production and the unique art rock style of Cafe Tacvba here. Not as wild and all over the place as the first half, but more focused and I liked it just as much but in a different way and for different reasons. First half is 3.3/5 and second half is 3.2/5ish for a total score of 3.1. aka 3.0 cuz such granular scores are non-existent here or RYM.

This has a vibe to it very similar to what I love about Willie's Stardust, but likely is a better record, even if I'm not there yet. Melancholic and feels just like the darkness and comfort of sad rain. T. Total Tommy almost had an Into the Mystic vibe with that bass line. It turned out to be a bit more upbeat, but still fantastic.
