TV by Hot Dad

If you want to listen to something utterly stupid, then look up some of these, uh, "covers" of famous TV theme songs.

(Brought to you by the same musicians that made music for a game I've mentioned before, "Hypnospace Outlaw".)

I don't know if this is the technical definition, but to me "soundtrack" means a collection of (mostly) already existing music put together for a film/TV series, whereas "score" means original compositions for the film/TV series (often sans-lyrics). That said, the soundtrack/score for musicals are typically original, and are often titled "Original Soundtrack"/OST, so I'm not sure...

My favorite musical film soundtrack score would be

La La Land (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) by Various Artists

My favorite film score would be

The Original Sound Track Of The Movie B...ano Bonfรก

My favorite TV special score would be

A Charlie Brown Christmas by Vince Guaraldi

My favorite TV series soundtrack would be

The Queen's Gambit (Music From The Netflix Limited Series) by Carlos Rafael Rivera (might have a bit of recency bias on this one but it's SO good)
EDIT: this link is to the score, not the soundtrack. The score is solid but the soundtrack is what really shines and firmly pins the series in the 60s.

My favorite film "soundtrack" the way I've defined it above is either

Baby Driver: Music From The Motion Picture by Various Artists

Or... soundtracks from any of Warren Miller's ski documentaries, but in particular Higher Ground:

There's some fantastic stuff in here, and if you like skiing/snowboarding or extreme sports in general I'd highly recommend a watch. In particular the use of Damien Rice's "Eskimo" for backcountry Alaska skiing is INCREDIBLE. That starts around the 4 minute mark, but the highlights are in the 6-7 minute range.

Most of my favourites have already been mentioned. OG Twin Peaks, Ascenseur Pour L'ร‰chafaud, OG Blade Runner, Morricone (I prefer A Few Dollars More score, but The Thing, The Good... , Days Of Heaven, Hateful Eight and some others are close), Mica Levi, Vince Guaraldi, Baby Driver, Into The Wild, Superfly and the recent ones like The Queen's Gambit, Chernobyl and Uncut Gems.

If you haven't heard Julee Cruise's solo album which features a lot of Twin Peaks songs, that's a good rec. As is Fire Walks With Me score.

Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me by Angelo Badalamenti

Floating Into The Night by Julee Cruise

Possibly my favourite soundtrack is:

2001: A Space Odyssey by Various Artists

I can't believe no one has mentioned LOTR yet, that whole score slaps. I also love this:

Hell Or High Water (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack by Nick Cave & Warren Ellis

And many more

While we're talking about soundtracks, one of my least favorite movies that others seem to like is No Country for Old Men. Which...doesn't have any music at all. I think for that reason I found it very unsettling the whole way through. Shows how important music is in a movie for me.
