High Off Life by Future
Kinda ignored Future for the past couple of years, which is crazy considering that I think he made a masterpiece as recently as 2017. This is very strong. Nothing revolutionary, but it's a very good Future record. Not really sure what to make of Future - it seemed like he had a ridiculous hot streak for a time, where everything he did felt fresh and new and full of energy, and that he's only made very marginal tweaks to the formula since then, which doesn't necessarily mean that the music he's put out since is better or worse, just that it doesn't recapture the thrill of that 2014-15 season. (Inspiring a legion of copy cats probably watered down his subsequent impact, too.) Anyway, his taste in beats is still immaculate, he still finds really interesting ways to use autotune, he still makes being really rich and drinking loads of lean sound super numbing, he has a seemingly endless armoury of flows, and his pop sensibilities never left him. (It really is no wonder that Beyonce buys Future demos by the dozen to take inspiration from.) So yeah, a really good Future album.
