Understandably a lull in hyped independent music since a lot of people blew their load for bandcamp Friday last week, but this Friday sees the release of USA/Mexico's Del Rio. For fans of Texas' strain of psychedelic noise rock, from King Coffey (most famously of Butthole Surfers), Craig Clouse (most famously of Shit & Shine), and Nate Cross (most famously the labelhead of Astral Spirits). Sure to put some pubes on your chest and blood in your ears
I just threw this on and IMMEDIATELY (not even a second went by) my kids starting shouting "EWWWWWWW!!!!! EWWWWW!!! EWWWW!!!" until I was able to find the pause button. They are now huddled in the corner drinking hot chocolate with marshmallows. This is not fiction. This is real events.
So I'm going to have to wait a bit to check this out. lol

a pleasant mostly relaxing ambient/drone tape but with some understated moodier tones and anxieties that flicker in and out. it's currently on my 2021 chart pretty low but I feel like it's growing on me as I notice more of the darker shades that float around the more serene surface _________________ A Variety of Artists

Currently sits at number 2 on my 2021 chart, everyone who's into Pharoah Sanders style long spiritual jazz jams should try this. Glad you liked it LedZep. Def some noteable Sanders influence throughout the project. The final third feels pretty heavily inspired by Love In Us All, but I think they put enough of a twist on it to pull it off as their own. It's sticking in my top 10 for the year right now, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it stick around until the end of the year. Solid stuff. Despite releases being somewhat sparse, UK jazz has been great the past few years.
Shoutout to Yoth Iria, the debut was out January 25th but it was so hyped I didn't even listen to it. Call it the "Fiona Apple" effect. Today I just couldn't wait anymore, put it on and it's absolutely killer. If you're into Greek melodic black metal aka Rotting Christ members in a new band, give it a try.
Edit: Just finishing Ad Nauseam's new one, pretty much the same experience as Yoth Iria (it was hyped on RYM and it actually is fantastic). The bass is literal machine gun fire. First serious AOTY candidate, if you liked that Ulcerate album last year give this a try. Greek and Italian scenes killing it. _________________ Overall chart Fake overall chart
New album from MIKE alias DJ Blackpower. Excellent instrumental hip-hop with an IDM influence. I think I might even prefer it to Madlib's instrumental hip-hop album this year.
