May the master of angsty bombast rest in peace.

Ah that is sad to hear. He was a brilliant songwriter and producer. You are right there is nobody else quite like him for bombastic rock. Bat out of Hell (all 3), Faster than the Speed of night and Pandora's box are all a joy to listen to (and certainly not guilty pleasures for me!)

I know Steinman had a debilitating stroke 15 or so years ago, and that severely curtails both your life expectancy and quality of life. But that doesn't make it any less difficult. I hope his death was peaceful.

Bat Out of Hell's perpetually been in my top 50, I love that album. Steinman's solo project Bad for Good is also quite wonderful, though it lacks the bombast that Meat Loaf and the ensemble of amazing musicians provided on Bat Out of Hell.

Sisters of Mercy's Floodland is also one of my favorites, and Steinman produced "This Corrosion" while working closely with the band throughout the making of the album.

"Total Eclipse of the Heart", "Holding Out for a Hero", "It's All Coming Back to Me Now": all classics, what a prolific songwriter and producer.

Nice call out for the Sisters of Mercy album. "More" is also a stellar cut.

I also love the two cuts that opened and closed the Streets of Fire soundtrack, Nowhere Fast and Tonight is What it Means to be Young.

That's brilliant.

Oh man, that's sad. Bat Out of Hell was a fave when I was a teenager, and it's not lost any of its grandeur or impact as I've aged. Cheesy, yes, but in a loveable way. There's some serious charm in the songs he's written and produced. RIP
