Tim Buckley is alive. Amazingly inventive guitar work, superb singing.
thanks for sharing this'ne. hands down the best album i've listened to this year. vocals weirdly(?) remind me a bit of nina simone, but i definitely feel the tim buckley vibe musically. it's kind of lorca-esque. i'd never 'rd of this guy before, but i'm going to start working through his discography. looks like he's got quite a bit of material. _________________ follow me on the bandcamp.

really takes off with Skullsplitter (still my fave) on. Slowly Paradise and the new solo are great too. But a lot of people are quite partial to the stuff he did with Martin Arnold and on Rat-drifting records too so...
Indeed. Might be my favourite of her yet, really like this more poppy and approachable style she's been doing the last few years.
Gizzard's The Dripping Tap is absolutely nuts. 18 minutes of psychedelic jams with a modern twist. Don't think I've been this excited for a King Gizzard release since Infest the Rats Nest. _________________ Overall chart Fake overall chart
Really digging some of the recs here from the past few weeks.
Agadez by Etran De L'Aรฏr, Kiren by ๆธ ๆฐด้ๆ [Yasuaki Shimizu], and Jenny Hval are probably my favorites. Haven't finished listening to Classic Objects by Jenny Hval yet though, keep getting distracted before I'm able to get all the way through it, so there's a few songs I haven't heard yet. Agadez might be my top of the year, it's very interesting that I found it more percussion-forward than Mdou Moctar or Tinariwen, despite their quip about their percussionist starting by banging a shoe onto a bucket.
Also checked out Say Laura by Eric Chenaux and Black Tupi by Tim Soulman and while I can't say I loved either, I think they're both cool listens and worth checking out. Black Tupi was definitely weirder than I was expecting, not a bad thing though.
Big Thief, Animal Collective, Beach House, KGLW solo, and KGLW/Tropical Fuck Storm collab are on my agenda (both KGLW projects are "singles" which are 20ish minutes long each, VERY excited for both).
Gonna make a recommendation of my own now:

This is a guy who was involved in the DC punk scene in the 80s and 90s and then decided to make a go-go-infused samba/MPB record because he stumbled upon a big collection of old Brazilian records? I guess? I wouldn't call this electro or electronica but it's instrumental and definitely more electronic than your standard samba/MPB (certainly more so than Black Tupi above). It's a fun album, really cool beats
Oh and also I haven't seen any talk about the Summer of Soul soundtrack (probably because the film came out last year), but it's predictably wonderful. I very much expect an expanded/deluxe edition to come out relatively soon, there was apparently a lot of material that didn't make it to the film/soundtrack and was considered for the soundtrack before they decided just to include songs that featured in the film. _________________ 51 Washington, D.C. albums!
Denzel Curry's dropping an album next week too. If it's anything like the quality of the first two singles, it's going to be another fantastic 2022 release. Wish Pig Feet made the tracklist, but I suppose it's nearly two years old now...
I'm personally a little behind on hip-hop this year, but hopefully I'll catch-up this weekend.
Looking forward to the new Arcade Fire too. _________________ Doubles & Conch
