Goodbye Jumbo by World Party
An underrated band/artist and an underrated album: but I have to say from my memory I thought that this album was an overall hit but in fact it isn't. Way Down Now, Go On My Side and especially Put The Message In a Box are near classics and there are good tracks here but songs like the opener It's Too Late are not really special. But overall a good album which moves up from the 59th to the 35th rank.

Elizium by Fields Of The Nephilim
Until now an unknown band to me and I was interested in how they interpreted the goth genre. My end conclusion is somewhat mixed: it's not bad but this album didn't blow me away either with the ending track as the best. I'll give predecessor The Nephilim a chance as well and for now this album ends up at the 36th rank.
World Outside by The Psychedelic Furs
One of their latter and therefore also underrated album but it's one of my favorites by them and In My Head and Better Days are two of their best tracks. I love this album and it goes from the 38th to the 24th rank of the year.

Doughboy Hollow by Died Pretty
I'm starting to love this Australian band. This is one of their softer ones but it's very irresistible with Out In the Rain as the best. The album comes in at the 42nd rank.
Nurse by Therapy?
The follow-up of this debut album, Troublegum, is one of my all-time favorite album and therefore this debut doesn't get the credit it deserves. But it's in fact already a very good one which already contains all the ingredients of that great follow-up except for very special tracks but this was only the stepping stone and already a very good effort and the album goes from the 80th tot the 36th rank.

Butterfly Kiss by Lois
This is by no means a special album but not a bad one either (I like the voice of the singer is maybe the best quality) and it enters at the 53rd rank of the year.
Love Of Will by David McComb
His first solo album after his fantastic career with The Triffids and unfortunately it was also his last before his death which came much too soon. His main asset remains one of the most beautiful male voices I know and if this is accompanied by great songs like Setting You Free and I Want To Conquer you which cover the two sides of his musical spectrum than you know you're in for a treat. Unfortunately his career suddenly stopped. The album goes from the 13th to the 19th rank which is by no means a sign that it isn't good: it's simple one of those many fantastic albums of that beautiful year.

Altered Beast by Matthew Sweet
The follwow-up album after his biggest success Girlfriend in which he tries different styles from country to power rock and actually gets away with it. The highlights clearly are Devil With Green Eyes and Time Capsule but nearly everything else is very muck OK. The album enters at the 25th rank of the year.
Without A Sound by Dinosaur Jr.
From their second period which to me is the closest because I didn't hear their albums from the first period when they were released and I became addicted to them the moment I heard The Wagon for the first time.
This is the 3rd album from that second period and again there are some real killer songs here with Feel The Pain with its fantastic stop/go pieces as the absolute highlight. But also I Don't Think So, Get Out Of This and Over Your shoulder belong to the best they ever produced. But not all of it is great and it's quality is not completely on par with the fantastic Where You Been and even the more difficult Green Mind, but nevertheless it's certainly not a bad stain on their great career. The album climbs from the 12th to the 7th rank of the year.

Electric Rock Music by Ass Ponys
Not much to say here: an album just good enough to be in my top chart at the 46th rank but not much more.

Deadsexy by Scarce
This band could have had a great career were it not for the hemorrhage of lead singer Chick Graning (I just read that his fiancee was Tanya Donnely which I didn't know until now) around the time the first version of the album was released. In any case the end result is that there are now circulating two versions of this albuù, the Uk version which is the album I owned from when it was released and the US version with four different tracks. Luckily the best tracks appear on both albums: Honeysmile, Days Like This, Sing Me Stella, Freakshadow and Obviously Midnight. The great songs are enhance by the grainy voice of Graning and the album rises from the 22nd to the 11th rank.

Long Division by Low
The album where they found their USP and stuck to it for the rest of their career. Like on most of their albums not all the tracks are of equal quality and the very basic music elements sometimes make it a hard listen so you really have to stick with there albums because of the special atmosphere which is being created. In this respect they will never by me absolute favorites but here they are good for the 57th rank of the year.

OK OK maybe I downplayed it a bit too much. Listening back to some of the tracks they are certainly good and the band does have their own guitar sound. This album is now part of my big playlist and I will definitely come back to it.
