Green by R.E.M.
It's difficult to over estimate this very important band and also this album was an important part of their career because it brought R.E.M. further to the mainstream after Document with hits like Orange Crush. Personally I think it's not their best but still very special and it remains at the 5th rank of the year.
An album from my wishlist:
Dream Of Life by Patti Smith
Not as raw as her first albums but to me this is still a very good one with only a few misses. It lands at the 30th rank.
The Mekons Rock 'N' Roll by Mekons
They seem to have done many music styles and this more rocking album is one of them and also the one I like the best. There are still some fiddles but a track like Memphis, Egypt is great. The album goes from the 36th to the 27th rank.
An album on my wishlist:
Book Of Days by The Psychedelic Furs
Maybe a bit less catchy than the music from their earlier albums but they are still able to make great music as is proven by the magnificent Should God Forget. And the voice of Richard Butler is still the star of the show. The album enters at the 15th rank of 1989.

Vision Thing by The Sisters Of Mercy
I don't think there are any metal or hardcore punk artists which can deliver a song of 4'35" in such a relentless forward moving way without any breathing time like the Sisters dit on Vision Thing. And what's more they did the same trick with the same track but for 7'34" on the Temple Of Love EP. One of my most favorite fast tracks ever. The thing is, this song is fairly atypical for the whole album and even for the band as it is commanded by fairly slow but ominous (but fantastic) songs like Something Fast (not a very apt title), When You Don't See Me or I Was Wrong. I think this is a great album and it goes from the 11th to the 6th rank of the year.

Fresh Evidence by Rory Gallagher
The last album of this great Irish blues legend before his death and what a great album it is where he excels in different types of blues where I prefer his most electrifying take on things most like on Kid Gloves and especially Slumming Angel. The album goes from the 64th to the 41st rank.

The Comforts Of Madness by Pale Saints
Considered in some circles as the quintessential shoegaze album: I don't really think so. It's ok but not great and lands at the 43rd rank of the year.

Bah - it isn't even the quintessential Pale Saints album. I suspect the main reason this one is ranked higher than In Ribbons is that there's a cat on the cover, and lots of people love cats.
(Also, there was more quality competition in 1992 than in 1990, which would negatively affect the chart ranking. I'm just sayin'.)

Still a really, really good album through and a definite Shoegaze classic!
Why Do Birds Sing? by Violent Femmes
To me the best album of this very interesting band not always coinciding with good songs. But on this album they do make a good effort to deliver some tracks which immediately draw the attention with American Music as the highlight. The album goes from the 66th to the 55th rank.

Shotgun Wedding by Lydia Lunch & Rowland S. Howard
Wow this is a great discovery (what a pity I only found it on youtube). I expected some experimental album only to be appreciated on an intellectual underbelly level (the perfect contradiction 😈 ) but no this album rocks and it rocks real hard. The combination of the gritty voice of Lydia Lunch and the (very) dirty guitar playing of Roland S Howard (remember The Birthday Party) works wonderfully well and the songs are there to prove this. To me the only slightly lesser song is the cover version of In My Time Of Dying but songs like Burning Skulls, Endless Fall, Pigeon Town and Black Juju (a bit sounding like a combination of the longer Doors and Patti Smith songs but with more guitars) just sound incredible. There is a lot of competition in 1991 but this album lands at the 26th rank.

Countdown To Extinction by Megadeth
Of course Megadeth is a very important name in trash metal but there is something in the voice of David Mustaine that holds me off a bit. Not that this is a bad album because there are some good tracks like the first two and the title track which hold the attention. So all in all good for the 69th rank (from 83).

Priest=Aura by The Church
I discover more and more great albums by this Australian band and this is one of them, again a bit darker than some of their others but it suits them well. So they deserve to land at the 31st rank with this album.
Dusk by The The
Not his best but with a track like Lonely Planet you can't go wrong and also most of the others are still vintage The The. The album goes from 64th to the 48th rank.

Manos by The Spinanes
I saw this album received a lot of love from people like Repo but the first three tracks were not really convincing: maybe just a bit too well behaved. But from then I started to hear a bit more dissonance both in the themes as in the music so I gradually started to appreciate it more and it finally lands at the 44th rank.
