We've not voted any new song quotes onto the site since too long (five years ago), and there's been a fair number of submissions in the meantime. This means we're overdue another round of voting! Anything that has been submitted since the last competition (post #2220 onward) will be automatically up for vote in this competition (this is now the 18th competition since the site started), so no need to re-submit, and anyone else is encouraged to submit their own favourites.

I'll paste below the 'rules' we've been using before:

Background:
At the top of every page on BEA, there is a line from a song which are nice to read, but after a while you've read them all. Post here your favourite quotes from songs, and we'll vote the best ones onto the site.

Rules:
  • Lyrics should be no longer than ~80 characters (one or two lines of a song) to fit in the site masthead. They should be credited to the original artist (no cover versions), must not contain profanity, and should be recognisable to the majority of visitors. This is what 80 characters looks like:

    12345678901234567890123456789012345678901234567890123456789012345678901234567890

  • The preferred format for your song quotes is on a single line as follows (the name of the song helps to verify the quote). It takes a long time to assemble all of your quotes for voting, so it would be very helpful if your submissions could be in this format:

    Quote - Artist (Song)

    e.g.
Thinking is the best way to travel - The Moody Blues (The Best Way To Travel)
And in the end, the love you take, Is equal to the love you make - The Beatles (The End)

  • There is a maximum of 50 quotes per person (otherwise voting becomes unmanageable). If more than 50 quotes are submitted, only your first 50 will be put to vote.

  • There's a list of existing quotes (already on the site) here which has just been updated.

  • After a week or so, we'll draw up a short-list and vote the best quotes onto the site.

N.B. All quotes submitted since the end of the last competition will automatically be included in the voting this time around (everything up until the post immediately preceding this one), so no need to re-submit them as it will lead to duplicates and create extra work filtering them out. Please do not modify existing posts prior to this date as submissions have already been collected. If you have any more quotes to add, please create a new post.

Here's a few suggestions:

I'm not carefree, no, I'm free to care, I just never do โ€“ Monsters of Folk (Ahead of the Curve)
All I have is my love of love, and love is not loving โ€“ David Bowie (Soul Love)
A poor man once told me that he can't afford to speak โ€“ They Might Be Giants (Number Three)
I need some meaning I can memorize, the kind I have always seems to slip my mind โ€“ Bright Eyes (Lover I Don't Have to Love)
Maybe I woulda been something you'd be good at, maybe you woulda been something I'd be good at โ€“ Tegan and Sara (Call It Off)

If a rebel's what it takes, a rebel's what I'll be, cause the one I follow was a rebel like me. - Anne Wilson - REBEL

Also, I submitted this one below, before and I don't see it on the updated list:

The devil went down to Georgia but he didn't stick around. This is God's country. - Blake Shelton - God's Country

I'll add more later if I think of more.

Maybe we should still start a favorite lyrics thread where we can share some of our favorite lyrics that are longer than these.

Your quote is possibly included in the voting, just like all quotes of mine, because the updated list is for existing quotes that won in previous votings (As far as I've understood from Albummaster's recent post on this thread)

just to clarify the updated list, linked in my previous post, is those quotes already voted onto the site (so people have a reference to what's already been voted onto BEA). Any quotes submitted since post #2220 will be voted on in this current competition (over 200 quotes so far, thank you) (no need to repost them as it will lead to duplicates and create extra work filtering them out).

Sorry, I thought that was an updated list of songs for an upcoming vote and I didn't see mine on it. By the way, the quote feature only works part of the time for me. Like when I clicked "quote" to quote you for this post your quote only showed up for a few seconds and then disappeared. I had to manually copy and paste it into this post.

I just started that thread. You can post in it now if you want to.

Apologies for the issue, I'll check into (fwiw, tested on latest versions of Chrome, Edge and Firefox on Windows without browser extensions).
