Sounds of Silence was probably the first album that got me into Simon & Garfunkel. My parents had a vinyl collection in the loft and this was amongst them (also Bookends & BOTW).
Sounds of Silence was easier to get into than Bookends, but after a while I preferred the quirkiness & flow of Bookends. The title track is an astonishing piece of work and I'd heard nothing like it before discovering this album (quite a few years ago!). Also much love for A Most Peculiar Man and I Am a Rock. Not heard this in a while and probably due a re-listen.

Listening to it as I'm typing this. BOTW would have to be my favourite S & G album with SOS 2nd I would suggest although, it might alternate with Bookends depending on how I'm feeling on any particular day.
As you say, the title track is outstanding, and I do love I Am A Rock as well.
I also have a soft spot for Richard Cory & Blessed. A really good album.

SOS is quite good as a first effort by the band but for me it's the weakest of the string of 4 albums it started.
It's probably the album of S&G's career that best showcases Paul Simon's guitar technique (although PSR&T is also up there) and it's mostly a folk record but I have more songs I like in the other 3 albums and in general I just feel like are all more cohesive than this one.
Still, very good album to start with S&G!

Nice summation filipe. I prefer the latter albums also but the title track of SOS is probably their greatest achievement. Pretty much a perfect song IMO.

We had our discussion around this album yesterday. Some pretty interesting takes, and not surprisingly, the majority rated it as a great album. Pers9nally, I’d go with very good but it does have some great songs.
One interesting point was that most people preferred the acoustic version of sound of silence on either the debut album or 
The Paul Simon Songbook (1965) by Paul Simon 
Personally, I prefer the overdubbed version.
I’m a little conflicted about Octobers pick
Revolver (1966) by The Beatles 
As I’m not a huge beatles fan but what the group does is listen to albums which you might not normally pull out so we’ll see. I may get more perspective on the album

Well, I'm completely biased since I'm a hardcore Beatles fan, but you should give "Revolver" another chance!
It's either "Revolver" or "Sgt. Peppers" for me as the #1 album ever made.

I get that. I don't know what it is about the Beatles. Always go into these sessions with an open mind.
I'll going to set up a dedicated thread for Revolver so would appreciate yours, and anyone else's, insight. Maybe I'll be a convert at the end of this
