A good reminder never to let first impressions=instant judgement, as I actually ended up really enjoying the RMP track, and gets the vote (just slightly) over the colorful PulciPearl.
Really liked Call it Easy. Fresh, emotional, accessible, and of course the jazzy touches are always appreciated. Might vote for it in the next round ๐
I was in two minds whether I should nominate the album's titular song - and biggest hit - or go for a lesser-known yet equally deserving tune. Decided the latter in the end, but I'd definitely recommend listening to the full album if one has the time. _________________ Bob Dylan Charles Mingus
I'll be going with my nom here, but it's kinda fun to see PulciPearl on the board. That one kinda came out of nowhere at the beginning of last year and kept gaining steamโ _________________ Doubles & Conch
I can sort of see why they'd want Godzilla carrying a woven wool kerchief or blanket, or whatever that is on the PulciPerla album cover (unless it's a tea-towel โย Godzilla would never carry a tea-towel), but what's with the cloche hat and the shovel? And is that a braided wig coming out from under the cloche hat? Godzilla doesn't need a wig and doesn't do gardening, he eats radioactive material and breathes death-rays. I voted for them, but this seems disrespectful.
Ok. So on repeat listens this became rather easy for me. The PulciPearl track would be welcome as part of a soundtrack/movie, but I wouldn't be cueing it up too often on my turntable. Quite the contrary for "Call It Easy" from Racing Mount Pleasant which reminds quite a bit of peak Bon Iver. Very much an epic & gorgeous track. Great discovery!
Racing Mount Pleasant was one of my favourite finds of last year, ended up at 15 on my year chart, definitely can see myself voting for this one again if it keeps going. _________________
