All props to Penn, but Elordi really should've walked away with thatโ

Second choice for me (and, honestly, for most of the race I figured he had it)โ Penn really only came out as the frontrunner in the last two or so weeks if I remember correctlyโ for months it was looking like Chalamet / Skarsgard / Byrne / Taylor, and none of them happenedโ
Very glad O'Brien was just announced as the host again, I think he did a great job these last two yearsโ
(Sidenoteโ I have no idea what John Goodman's role is in Digger, but I'm hoping he finally lands an Oscar nom/win for itโ about time)โ
Being said, these new fancy shmancy rules for the International Feature category hit the Cannes discussion this weekโ I don't mind the new rules, especially as an experiment, but there was something kinda official/absolute about a country getting one name in the hatโ _________________ Doubles & Conch

In the Best Supporting Actor category, there was a clear "should win" and a clear "anybody but this guy." Sean Penn was the latter. For one, his performance wasn't anything special. Sure, it was effective but very one-note. Two, he had already won twice before in the 2000s. And most importantly, Penn doesn't even like the Academy and couldn't care less about the award. Kieran Culkin called it out, "Sean Penn couldn't be here tonight, or didn't want to." So why on Earth they awarded him a third time, when there were better performances, is beyond comprehension. Then there was Stellan Skarsgard, who gave an excellent performance with nuance and multiple layers. He's also an acting veteran but has never had a real shot at an Oscar until Sentimental Value. He's 74 and may never get another shot. He would have been ecstatic to win. Penn over Skarsgard was the worst decision the Academy made this year. Elordi was good too, but he's young and will get more chances. Seeing Penn not represented on most acting lists so far in this thread makes me happy.

Sean Penn and Leonardo DiCaprio are two of my least favorite, most overrated actors (who consistently have two moods in their movies and just fluctuate wildly between those two moods) so you can imagine my utter lack of enthusiasm for One Battle After Another.
(yes Sean Penn is in my signature, it's a dumb joke and that's it) _________________ I wanna take Sean Penn
