dead hoofer's eying the hoi-palloi,
dolls, dishes, dreamboats,
no, can't cut a rug,
the moxie, no
can't cut a rug—
runs out of gas,
whistling dixie,
as the mob counts clams,
a buzz from swigging sidecar,
running out of gas, tipsy,
no, can't cut a rug—
shincracker, dizzy,
mad to watch limbs dance,
as smoke wisps beyond means,
and the bird gives you a glance—
but, no, can't cut a rug—
jitterbug—
(jitterbug)—
knowing dreams are only til
the credits roll black—
Ayy Jack, y'done it— y'made a list! —
from them gas black'n'whites to the gumshoe noirs, dolly dizzy boys and a jive bomber or two,
brainchild's got some moxie up at bat, and knows how to swing on occasion—

Thank you to all the individuals who submitted lists 😄 — as always, couldn't be done without you. And now you must reap what you sowed.
A total of 315 unique films were submitted. And you know what? You can't stare at a list of films from the 40s for too long. All the words jumble. And reappear. And shift. There's a lot of titles that are bonkers similar and you're suddenly guessing if two films are actually one or if one film is actually two. And then you get dizzy. But everything's tallied, signed, off to the briefcases, etc— we've got a list 😎
Runner-ups in alphabetical order: Act of Violence, Bitter Rice, Heaven Can Wait, Jane Eyre, The Postman Always Rings Twice
Director who appeared most on the list (with 7 films)—
Michael Powell
