Wonderful album, only bettered in their catalogue by Something Else. And it's highly debatable. Delightful, an idea of pop perfection.

Something Else is so much better for me, I can't see why people like this one more ๐Ÿค”

Probably because it has a common theme (concept album?) and a vibe to it that is consistent throughout the whole record. You might be right as far as individual songs go though. Waterloo Sunset is probably the best song in their canon, and it's on Something Else.

The Kinks are definitely an underrated band, at least their mid-late 60's period is underrated.

I agree a lot with the underrated thing. Still I think Something Else has a more consistent vibe and tells a more interesting history, but that's just me I guess. Also I think "Waterloo Sunset" is overrated, or maybe other Kink's songs are really underrated like "Death of a Clown" or "David Watts".

(They are underrated alright, and I think that their albums released between 1966 and 1970 were perfection, but more on that later.)

IMO, You Really Got Me is really The Kinks' best song, but it's not on Village Green Preservation Society, so that doesn't answer the question of "Why is Village Green Preservation Society liked more?"

I don't really know why others like it more, because I don't know whether other people share my views on it, BUT.......I know I like it because there is something about Village Green which other Kinks albums don't have. What is that? Well.....it's just that you can look at Village Green in SO many different ways, and make an interpretation of your own of its concept. Is it just a simple album which "laments the passing of old-fashioned English traditions"? Or is there something deeper there? Spite? Frustration? Anger? Or is it something else entirely?
